I did the reverse i played Shinobi first and ninja gaiden ended up feeling more annoying by comparison.
I like both of them but ninja gaiden was the one that went to frustrating more so.
I think Shinobi has better combat but ninja gaiden has smoother and faster gameplay overall.

They do some things to ease the difficulty but I still found some sections and bosses very frustrating.
