Battletech goes synthwave with this Vapor Eagle for my newest merc band, Malibu Overdrive. This was such a departure from my comfort zone but I'm so happy I tried it now that it's done.
A front view of the Vapor Eagle mini painted in a gradient from left to right transitioning from blue to pink with some accent lights picked out in neon green, blue, and orange. The base is painted to look like the mech is stepping onto a highway. A side view of the mini, showing the glowing heat vent for the large pulse laser. A rear view of the mech, showing the base in better detail and alo showing the jump jets painted with the same heat glow look.

And that's totally fair! To each their own. I definitely know I'm an outlier in a lot of ways when it comes to my preferences in ttrpgs. 😅

Bob Ross, a man who taught people how to find joy in creativity and who swore to himself after leaving the army to never raise his voice at another person, in an AI generated video where he screams at the camera over not being allowed to steal the work of artists.

It's really something.

someone got yellllled aaaat, and now the guardrails are so strict they're overcompensating and blocking prompts for all sorts of stuff, including public domain characters. no one on the app is taking it well

I'll note that this was from like 2013 so if it were today I wouldn't have gone with a Potter reference but that's what I have.

Went through my notes on my phone last night cleaning old old grocery lists and half formed thoughts so I could find stuff I actually needed and found the roster for my old Blood Bowl team of Undead players named after U.S. presidents.
A list of names under the heading Dead Presidents that reads:

1. Nearly Headless Nixon
2. Abraham Clink'n'chains
3. Deddy Noosevelt
4. Buried S. Truman
5. Fright D. Eisenhower
6. Rutherford B. Heads
7. Millard Killmore
8. Benjamin Scarison
9. Thomas Deatherson
10. Graver Cleavedhand
11. Fester A. Heartburst
12. Gone F. Kennedy
13. Dirge Washington
14. Calvin Ghoulidge

living in a battlemech down by the river

In my games, I want you to cross the river, so even if you're wildly unprepared I'm gonna find a way to let you jury rig a solution. It'll be riskier and you might and up washed downstream unceremoniously soaked, but you'll get there. But the prepared player's gonna feel like a genius. :P

Haha I tend to hope that my style is more "I reward you for bringing stuff by making you feel cool for having it" but I totally know that sort of GM, and how much it leaves an impression to scour the gear lists from then on!

Like, does it truly matter to have 20 options for varieties of pistol scattered across 4 splatbooks? Probably not, but it let me find a pistol variant with a parrying blade instead of an underbarrel mount for my Shadowrun character to enable the gun kata bullshit I wanted to do.
My shadowrun character, an elf runner called Shiva dressed in a crop jacket with rgb led trim and one of his little knife pistols in his hand.

This is, in my mind, the major point that consistently tips me towards Shadowrun over Cyberpunk Red. Red's gear list is extremely simplified and Shadowrun's goes on for pages and pages of options with many more options in splatbooks.

I like gear! Especially in Cyberpunk!

Maybe it's not good game design, idk, but I am hopelessly addicted to extensive and specific gear lists in ttrpgs. Shopping is the longest part of character creation? OK by me. Does it really matter? No, but I like to know all the cool gear and gadgets and armor and clothing my lil' guy has.

An important metric 😂😂😂

Well, now I'm stuck on both Shadowrun and Cyberpunk at the same time. My brain craves neon dystopia.

3. Remote hacking but hacker can't easily access anything other PCs can't get devices connected to.

4. Hacker is not the focus of the mission but needs to be on site to disable security.

5. Hacker runs e-warfare against enemy robot/cybered units.
agentshades.bsky.social
What are some ways that hacking can include the whole party (i want to steal them). I have in the past used:

1. Need to protect hacker, on site or remote but bad guys can trace location.

2. Hacker needs to be on site clearing physical storage media for theft by other party members.

I don't think tabletop hacking was prepared for the ubiquity of wifi. 😅

I think its funny that both Cyberpunk and Shadowrun are in different ways trying to lore justify the internet being broken to the point that you need local access to anything you *really* want to get into. Cyberpunk because the Net is broken, Shadowrun through the idea of digital noise.
agentshades.bsky.social
I feel like I've heard that about every cyberpunk themed game. Netrunning/DeckingH/Hacking is always awesome but always impossible for most players to interact with, and those who are are hampered in meatspace encounters. Not sure how you solve it neatly without losing some of the depth.
agentshades.bsky.social
I've never gotten to play any edition of Cyberpunk but it looks fascinating!
agentshades.bsky.social
Cyberpunk Red has sat on my shelf for a long time ever since I found a used copy cheap at a local bookstore. I love Cyberpunk (genre) in all forms but usually end up playing Shadowrun because a lot of my play group likes magic in their settings. 8 can go either way on it but Red still lurks, waiting
