Today's the day I let my students try and find out what they can about me online

Always an interesting day

Things I loved from the first week of classes:

Students are asking really interesting questions! Questions included "Was Shakespeare cheating?" and "was Plato the PewDiePie of his day?"

These were relevant to the lecture/readings and really thought provoking!

The 1st of September isn't my favorite. Summer funding finished in July so no income in August but bills are still due.

Looking forward to the return of paychecks soon

What's your organization scheme for your books? #academic

Currently trying to learn some Portuguese for the upcoming @aoir.bsky.social conference

Why does Duolingo think my mother can only be from Mexico, Brazil, or Japan?

I hope everyone is getting the #NCA25 results they're hoping for!

Finding evidence that Gamergate was the result of Reaganomics was not on my research bingo card, but here we are.

And another AoIR/NCA reviewer season is done.

This year I did 6 AoIR reviews and 18 NCA reviews (despite a glitch that made me not show up as a reviewer)

Pretty decent numbers and some interesting submissions this year!

I once again have to say, if you see me on a dating app and then go out of your way to find and follow me on social media, without us matching or conversing on that dating app, you are creepy. Stop it.

Today was my last day of "teaching" for the spring semester. "Teaching" because the class voted for a class party (vs no class). 11 students showed up despite the rain and played Fibbage with me

Good way to end the semester :) ♡

Can I pick the state?
I really would like my federal taxes to be paid into a trust account held by the state.

You can always tell I have a lot of work to do when my chores are getting done.

Lots of unfinished stuff to get done today, but I've cleaned part of my bathroom and took the trash out. x)

Students were great today (if a little quiet during discussion). More than one was building connections between the lecture topic and other things (and talking to me about them)so that's a success to me :)

First day of the spring semester was yesterday and students were asking questions about the syllabus and work!

Let's hope that continues in the first content lecture tomorrow

Did I get books for the holidays? Yes.

Have I also bought 3 more books in the last 2 weeks? Also yes.

I have a problem.

The beginning of my spring semester is going to be extremely busy

Flying back to Madison tomorrow!

Come on a trip with me to digitize my family history.

Today is converting mini DVs. In short, I'm watching a winter concert I did in middle school where, not only was I in band, I also got special permission to join the choir, and was part of a trombone feature.

But, oh my god, the tuning...

Student evals often end up giving.

This semester: How would you evaluate the course website?

Student: fire

Currently seeing Alastair Greene and my dad managed to snap this pic.

Quite aesthetic imo

82% (98/119) of my students did their evals this semester!

About 10 years ago, Priya Banwait and I wrote a chapter about the evolution of The Wicked Witch of the West in the public imagination.

This week, I was interviewed by NPR because of it.

Yes, I accidentally bought sweet potato pie instead of pumpkin this year, but I didn't make a sweet potato casserole this year so I'm not mad about it

Today is full of grading, writing, and meetings

So what should my writing goal be?
