Kirby Air Riders sliding into my "top 10 games I played in 2025" list with only a month left in 2025? You bet!

Game #21 of 2025 “completed”: Kirby Air Riders!

I’ve spent enough hours playing Kirby Air Riders to conclude that it most certainly is the game that the original GameCube release deserves to be in year 2025.

Three first places tonight.

All I ever need is to be “pretty good” at a game to be satisfied.

So while I don’t play as many multiplayer games as most others…

Kirby Air Riders might be the most balanced multiplayer game I’ve ever played.

Finishes where are players within milliseconds of each other, never the same machine winning twice… It’s so great.

I can no longer count on two hands how many Air Ride races I’ve won and / or lost within a tenth of a second. Absolutely freaking insane.

Honestly, the new lighting and textures look great, but I wish they had done “more” to Kirby Air Riders’ retro courses.

It is hilariously fun to play them with this game’s increased speed and chaos though.

Well, I, uh… Didn’t expect to get “that” City Trial checklist goal this early.

Holy what? Kirby Air Riders actually made Nebula Belt… good?!?

First impression of the “full” Kirby Air Riders: Easily the best-looking first-party Switch 2 game so far. When you go fast it feels a lot like Sonic Generations (a compliment).

Zooooom!

Game #20 of 2025 completed: Witch On The Holy Night!

Well. "Game" is loose here because it's a visual novel. My first traditional VN since reading Steins;Gate 0, I found "Mahoyo" (as it's known) to be a not-faultless but overall engaging experience.

Keeping an open mind after seeing Steins;Gate Reboot's new art direction. I was never upset by the softer art direction of Steins;Gate 0 but you can definitely tell some personality is being lost here.

But then again, S;G Elite never particularly bothered me either.

So I’m still not completely sold on the increased “chaos” of Kirby Air Riders’ City Trial mode.

I also think it’s going to need some rebalancing in the future with nerfs to the Tanks and Chariots. If you grab one you’re basically KO’ing everyone and stealing their boosts.
November 16, 2025 at 3:44 AM
Okay, Kirby Air Riders’ “vs. Boss” mode is way better than the original. Crazy fun.
November 16, 2025 at 12:58 AM
Holy what? The Bulk Star is actually VIABLE in Kirby Air Riders? How?!?
November 15, 2025 at 1:53 PM
I decided I needed a break from my usual fare... So here I am reading my first visual novel since I read Steins;Gate 0 many years ago.

And whoo boy, did I pick a good one - Witch On The Holy Night, aka "Mahoyo". I am HOOKED and the plot is only just starting to ramp up. (Screenshot lacks context)

Just going to leave this here with zero context other than:

"Nasu-verse."

The art direction in Kirby Air Riders is STRONG. Like the original, there’s “just enough” of a lean in the photorealistic direction to elevate the visuals without leaving the “Kirby bubble”. And it all looks AMAZING in motion.
November 9, 2025 at 3:08 AM
One HUGE change is that, rather than just scatter on the field, when you damage another player, the patches (boosts) they lose get sent directly to you.

It actively discourages defensive play, and I’m not sure how I feel about it.
November 9, 2025 at 12:52 AM
More Kirby Air Riders: City Trial rewards very, VERY aggressive play. Machines are much more plentiful so you’re more easily able to swap out before you crash than in the original.
November 9, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Why yes, I am still good at deviously placing motion sensor bombs, thank you very much.

(Please do not take that out of context.)
November 8, 2025 at 1:27 PM
First impressions of Kirby Air Riders: This is WAY more “intense” than Air Ride on GameCube and it’s so much better for it.

The original feels downright tame by comparison.

So I finished the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC last night, and I’m… whelmed?

“Whelmed” is relative of course, because XC3 is far and away my favorite in the series. But the world building that I have typically praised the series for is starting to go off the rails. Lots of loose ends too.
