I remember how back in the early 70's, scifi futures like 2022 just seemed impossibly distant. For that matter, in my first academic position when I signed up for TIAA CREF, the projected retirement date of 2024 seemed impossibly distant. But here we are, just rolled in to the future smoothly.

Back around 1982 I remember buying at a local Great Falls, MT bookstore the definitive, seminal work on driving etiquette, "How to Drive Like a Selfish Bastard." It specifically said on this topic, "Don't use turn signals, it's nobody's business where you're going."

I found myself thinking that someday 30-50 years from now, some loner old fart will stumble on a similar kind of refuge and see your name on a simple plaque, and wonder about that person, with appreciation that the person once lived and did nice things that live on.

I wish you success on the event. Sounds like you've been doing a lot. Thought of you a couple of days ago when I found just a little refuge in a tiny little green area adjacent to airport parking (not known for its "cool vibes.") in FAI. Nice set of bike paths make it accessible from miles away.

Am I missing something? Adding your proposed edits seems essentially like definitively casting a possibility as a sure outcome. You know what they say about making predictions, especially about the future :)
I thought ADN piece was well done, but of course more local detail than expected in NYT

I don't understand how this happens. Even if you hate the whole idea, you hate the government, you have an obligation to do something like this professionally. At least that's what I remember. Something is really, really wrong here.

I haven't done "pass in review" for 40+ years, but my memory is it's a sharp, synchronized cadence activity. I've only seen a couple of clips of today's pass in review, but came off as super sloppy to me. Am I missing something? Many have been out of step, like Week 2 of basic training.

Frequently in my life, which has been quite full, I've felt like these simple walks alone with the dog(s) will be way up the list of things I have valued most when I look back. I often think at such times, "these are the days."
