GUESS WHO'S BACK

#FursuitFriday
The "Raymond" german shepherd fursuit. He is standing 3/4 away from the camera, showing off his back and hip as he wags his tail. He is looking over his right shoulder at he camera. He has dark brown fur on his back, lighter brown fur on his shoulders and hips, and golden fur on his lower arms and legs. His muzzle has similar colors, dark on the tip of the muzzle, lighter on the face, golden around his eyes and cheeks, and off-white dots on his brows. There's a shelf with some curios and books in the background. The same fursuit, standing, looking at the camera, and waving with his right hand. The same fursuit, down on one knee, and with his hands on the bent other knee. He's about 3/4 on to the camera, showing off his left side. He's looking at the camera.

the city of los angeles burned in january in part because of a man who couldn’t stop generating images of burning cities on ChatGPT, and then after he lit the fire he asked if the fire he started was his fault

Yeah. The past few years have been rough, and I'm lucky I managed to stumble into having a little mental space to breathe.

It turns out building habits and stuff actually requires not being in survival mode, who knew?!
(Yeah yeah I did)

we are measuring height wrong
Crude sketch. Text says: "Proposal: Measure height like we measure temperature". It shows a short stick figure on the left, and a tall stick figure on the right. Dotted lines extend from their heads, denoting height below and above, respectively, an arbitrary "0 cm°" height midway between their heights. The short person is -30 cm° and the tall person is +30 cm°. That is, short people have negative heights, and tall people have positive heights.

The hour or so I spend playing guitar and not staring at a screen might be the most beneficial thing I do for my sanity most days.
I bet it'd be good to play with other people.
Ah well, back to the screen because we live in the atomized hell of late capitalism.

I finished sorting my USB cables. Very exciting! Except I don't have enough shelf space for the bins as well as my CDs which are already overflowing off screen.

Bonus pic: the worst USB cable I own
Some shelves with plastic bins in them. The plastic bins hold cables, and have labels on them: "USB C misc", "USB A/B", "USB C/C", "USB Power", "USB A/C with D±", "USB A/micro B", "USB A/C NO DATA PINS", and "USB A Extensions". Also above the bins are a bunch of CDs. a USB A to C cable plugged into a tester. The tester has LEDs for USB pins indicating continuity. On this cable, only one VBUS and one GND are lit up, indicating not only can this not transmit data, but it will only work when plugged in one way.

Book finished: A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr.

It's a science fiction classic from the 1950s. So the premise (catholic monks preserving knowledge after a nuclear apocalypse) is a fun one, but the ways it has diffused into popular culture are better than the novel itself.

I thought it was Akitober…

Excited to see what you come up with!

I'd suggest House of Wolves by My Chemical Romance. Or really anything off that album.

When I listen to myself speak, I really notice my midwestern accent and it makes me uncomfortable.
Meanwhile, my coworkers have been telling me they love the narration work I did for a demo.

I really ought to like myself more than I do.

There are people I would like to follow on here, but a substantial portion their feed is reskeeting all the world's horrors as if they are compelled.

I'm now the engineer who gets assigned recoding demos at work because I make ones that don't suck.

Because planning failed, in 2 hours I recorded supplemental screen recordings, wrote a script, recorded a voiceover, and cut and retimed a coworker's demo to be something a human can actually follow 😮‍💨

Our "in office" percentage calculation at work is
(days in office + PTO days) / (weekdays in month - company holidays)
So if a company holiday falls on a day I'm normally in the office, I have to come in a different day to make up for it. But if I take PTO, that always counts as a day in the office

South Texas game cam catches a raccoon riding a javelina (Dicotyles tajacu).

The deer feeder corn attracts a lot of other species, but maybe we should worry about them all teaming up against us?

(📷: Jeff Davis, TAMU-Kingsville alumni forum)
On a black and white game cam, three javelinas are browsing corn while a raccoon sits on one of their backs. The lighting produces laser-eyes in the raccoon, who is secretly one of the X-Men. A raccoon knight on a javelina steed. "Onward, Pigasus! Let us show them the meaning of haste". Motion blurred, black and white game cam shot.
