NWS Norman just issued their 1,112th Severe Thunderstorm Warning this year, which is now ~12% higher than their previous year's max of 988. (Glad VTEC implemented 4 digit tracking event numbers!)

Surprised to find the Aviation Weather Center METAR service discontinued overnight. The future is here I guess: aviationweather.gov/data/api/ Continues my long standing rant that the NCEP centers do whatever they want on the web while weather.gov can't change anything without SCN/comment period.

I don't wish to defend grib, but grib messages being standalone and also concatenatable into larger single files is a powerful and practical feature for dissemination centers. Netcdf + compression is not trivial
