Is quite like to know how these sums come together at times. It’s like confetti money. While for us £20k is something that can make an insane difference to a project and paper- and you’ll sometimes have to argue with a grant reviewer who’d like to see “more details”.

Sadly can’t help- but last year I was on holiday in Crete and found out by accident that the meeting was happening a week after our departure 😀 it seems to thrive despite the secrecy.

I have a lot of time for Lineker. He doesn’t hide. He could have an easy life debating offside decisions in football. Instead he’s pointing out dodgy political positions.

Universities should be a repository of human knowledge, places where we train people and innovate. BUT. Looking at my career, I had to make sure the people in the lab were paid (and for a long time, me too). When you fail it’s an utter nightmare. Is it anything other than a business in the end?

Like studies on flies etc- it pains me to have to say this in 2025, but basic research and model organisms still matter.
