I had to try this for myself and wow, thank you ChatGPT. Maybe we all get to wake up after our gas leak season soon?

France’s National Assembly votes in favour of legalising assisted dying. I have a solution: wolves.

True. I suppose they know that climate scientists won’t change their tune based on this cherry-picked and misleading analysis, but the letters PhD after the authors’ names will impress a lot of non-scientists.

No guns, no fentanyl, and the Victoria line runs every 100 seconds? This London really sounds like a hellscape

My fellow New Yorkers, go vote! I mailed my ballot from Paris - no excuses.
Confirmation from the NYC board of elections that my ballot was received

Armstrong Hall at Columbia University is not anymore housing the Goddard Institute for Space Studies. 160 or so of us gathered outside for the last picture. But we are still standing as a group, strong and determined, doing the same work and more great things into the future. Keep your eyes on us!

I started work at LOCEAN at Sorbonne today, and Notre Dame is on my walk to work! PhD life has its perks.

Joke's on whoever moves in and finds out that we're testing the range of human habitability, not just with our models, but also with the HVAC system.

🧪 My amazing and brilliant partner @jaredjeya.bsky.social wrote this paper! Any quantum physicists: please explain this to me. I'd love to understand what he does!

Quantum electrodynamics on a 1D lattice can lead to localization of charges, in contrast to the thermalizing dynamics. This study identifies the origin of such non-thermal signatures and attribute it to the fracturing of the underlying Hilbert space.

Hilbert space fragmentation at the origin of disorder-free localization in the lattice Schwinger model
Communications Physics - Quantum electrodynamics on a one-dimensional lattice can lead to the localization of charges, in contrast to the thermalizing dynamics ubiquitous in nature. In this work...

My partner and I played an election day game where we competed to come up with the worst possible policy ideas. This is EXACTLY my winning pitch on immigration. Truly beyond satire.

This is before even considering the cost benefits from our research. Everyone from insurance companies to the agricultural sector use GISS TEMP, CMIP6, and other model products to assess climate risks on all timescales.

DOGE claims NASA GISS is being evicted to save money, but it actually costs taxpayers more to remove us. GSA is on the hook for our lease until 2031, regardless of whether we occupy the building, and we all have to be "in person" by September. Any other place has a higher marginal cost than $0.

In response to NASA’s decision to force IFPTE-represented employees at NASA’s Goddard to move out of their offices in New York City, IFPTE altered Members of Congress that this action is not only disruptive, but wastes federal resources and harms the critical work of these scientists.

"This cooperative agreement suggests that the Earth will have a significant fluctuation in its water availability as a result of global warming. Using federal funds to perpetuate these narratives does not align with the priorities of this Administration" so ignorance is strength now, apparently?
Ending Cooperative Agreements’ Funding to Princeton University
On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick announced that nearly $4 million in funding is ending to Princeton University after a detailed, careful, and thorough review of the...

One cute GO-SHIP tradition is that when we get to our deepest station (6280m!), we decorate styrofoam cups and let the pressure shrink them into fun souvenirs. I'm thinking of making mine into a Christmas ornament

I'm a bit over a week into my research cruise with GO-SHIP and finally over my cyclone-induced round two of seasickness! This is what my CTD work station looks like - I'm in charge of telling the winch operator the depths we want to look at and then remotely closing bottles to collect water samples.

Day 2: I think I've mostly adjusted to the constant rocking. Today, we swapped out all the O rings on the CTD and learned how to set it up. Excited for our test station tomorrow!

For the next 38 days, I'll be aboard the Thomas G. Thompson as a CTD watchstander. This is my first research cruise, so I'll give updates on life at sea! 🌊🧪
