He probably believes that. He cares more about keeping his base than anything else. If he’s back in their good graces he thinks they’ll protect/defend him no matter what. He might be right given pretty much everything he’s done so far.

The Epstein files have created a division within the MAGA movement to the point that it’s hurting Trump with his own base. I think he thinks by now supporting its release it will quell any intraparty rebellion. Not sure if that makes sense, but I think he’s out of other options.
