Really helpful explainer thread.
Today’s labour market statistics show that the labour market is weakening on multiple fronts, with unemployment reaching 5 per cent for the first time in almost a decade (pandemic period aside).

Here’s our @resolutionfoundation.org thread, from @nyecominetti.bsky.social and me.

Trump and his cronies have the BBC in their sights. Leaders can’t stay silent while one of our great institutions is attacked.

We must defend its independence, end political appointments, and remove Robbie Gibb from the Board.

Excellent piece on the Bylines network by @garygilligan.bsky.social - there is a real chance that Reform might win the next general election, and it is critical that people know what it is they are voting for. Judging by their councils so far, that seems to be broken promises and rising bills.

Just wtf is this?

I can’t think of many more unifying causes than standing up for the BBC against this absurd threat from Trump.

And Farage will be on his side, snivelling along like the school-bully-errand-boy that he is. Traitorous little bastard.

A BBC insider revealed to me in the summer that the corporation was deliberately slanting website coverage towards Reform to boost ratings and story clicks.
bsky.app/profile/auth...
The BBC is giving Nigel Farage and Reform far too much coverage. Reform UK only have 4 of the 250 opposition MPs, but Nigel Farage accounts for 60% of the BBC website's mentions of opposition leaders.

The BBC should not boost Nigel Farage’s dangerous, divisive politics.

This is what concerns me here in the UK - that people haven’t properly grasped what the battle is. Listening to the centre and the left bicker is genuinely frightening. The far-right wants women at home, POC in camps or worse, those with disabilities left to die…
Politicians are not all the same.
It's no longer left versus right or even Democrat versus Republican.

It’s now democracy versus oligarchy. Freedom versus dictatorship. Right versus wrong.

Millions are awakening to this new reality — and they're speaking up.

The sleeping giant of America is roaring.
