For those of you desiring to know more about ducks, allow me to share:
Very few ducks actually quack. Only 30%. Most male ducks are silent. Some ducks make noises such squeaks, grunts, groans, chirps, whistles, brays, or grunts.
There you go. I had a quack, oops, crack.

So many Australian publishers have a metaphorical sign on their doors saying -'Poetry not welcome here.' Their timidity fails all of us culturally. Little wonder it is so hard for teachers, parents and kids to find poetry in bookshops. Australian curriculum be damned they say.

Encourage kids to take their writer's notebooks beyond the classroom and allow the writing to flourish. It's not just for school. Research indicates kids who write at home are five times more likely to perform beyond year level expectations. The notebook is the bridge.
