The 1st time a 5 year old gets the bus keys and climbs behind the wheel, you can tell them off for the damage. But you also need to lock stuff up better.

The second time the 5 year old manages to drive the bus, you need to acknowledge that they are not the problem here. Something is deeply broken

I finished this guy. Really happy with the colour scheme. Now I'm ready to start Orktober.

It kinda does. When people respond for administering the rejoin negotiations say "there will be no rejoining negotiations until xxx" then you either have to capitulate or give up on rejoining.

For the record, I support rejoining but recognise how long it's going to take
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
I want to be clear that I support rejoining. I believe the UK is (and always will be) far weaker outside the single market. However I also acknowledge that rejoining will be a long and difficult process, which will be made much harder by people claiming it could easily be achieved in one parliament
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
I agree. But that's what the EU have officially started. They don't trust the UK after Brexit
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
Interesting, I didn't know that. What I do know is that the EU has specifically stated they will not consider negotiating UK entry into the EU or customs union until the matter is politically settled. This is their official position and makes sense as we are the only country to have previously left
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
Does Moldova have a history of voting to leave the EU after already being a member? Is the second largest party in Moldova (or the party currently top in the poles) absolutely committed to keeping the country outside of the EU no matter the economic cost?
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
The EU absolutely want us back. We're the 5th biggest economy in the world so we would boost their bargaining. However, the average negotiation time is 9 years and it costs millions, which is why the EU won't start until there's a guarantee that the next government won't just cancel the whole thing

I live in the UK where we have the strictest gun laws in the world. It's illegal to own a gun without a permit, carrying a gun in public carries prison sentences. In my lifetime (41 years) there have been 2 mass shootings. Oh and we still have lower levels of knife crime than America.
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
At present there is no mechanism for joining the single market without becoming a full EU member. They may be one in development but it's still years away. And the EU would still insist on the matter being politically settled before starting negotiations
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
Agreed. The really annoying thing is that pro-brexit media (who know how unpopular Brexit is) is actively spreading the lie that Labour have a magic "rejoin the EU button" they are refusing to press, in order to make rejoiners vote against Labour so that pro-brexit party can win the next GE
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
The EU is very big on "no you can't just make individual agreements with each member state. You negotiate with us as one entity or you fuck off"

Allowing member states to make individual agreements on entry to the single market who literally undermine the point of the EU
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
It doesn't matter what the EU says regarding membership of the EU, a process which the EU (not the member states) will be responsible for negotiating....?

Membership negotiations typically take more than 5 years. The EU needs to know that the next government definitely won't cancel the process
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
How many times do I need to repeat this: THE EU WILL NOT NEGOTIATE UNTIL THE MATTER IS POLITICALLY SETTLED, meaning that all major UK parties must agree on rejoining.

Right now the biggest threat to rejoining is hardline-rejoiners who insist that we could rejoin within a few years
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
Yes they do. Rejoining is going to be a long process. For starters, the EU has stated it will not negotiate rejoining until the matter is politically settled, that means all major parties have to support rejoining. Pretending that rejoining is easy will harm our chances of rejoining
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
Please show your working out. Starmer was a huge reminder. He was the one who forced Labour to support a second referendum in 2019, something that Corbyn didn't want. Starmer has been laying the groundwork for us to rejoin, something which is going to take a decade to achieve.

I wish people would see the rise of the far right for what it really is, an artificial movement driven by wealthy capitalists trying to weaponize division and subvert democracy just to protect their profits from progressive social movements, climate action and voters wanting better living standards.
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
The way I see it, chaos isn't dangerous than all the others, it's just more personal. If 10 people wanted to kill you, but 1 of them was your ex who you'd spent 3 years with, you'd be more focused on them than other 9 who (I assume) haven't seen you naked or know your embarrassing music tastes
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
Let's be completely fair here, Nigel Farge wants to tear up all human rights for anyone living in the UK, not just people who weren't born here.
amonsteronthehill.bsky.social
The big question is whether the public will see this before the GE
