I seemingly managed to repair a dead hard drive by replacing its PCB and moving over its BIOS chip to the new PCB. It was in an external enclosure that had the wrong power adapter plugged into it. Crossing my fingers that all 1+ TB of data can be copied safely. 🤞

Exactly how does this image relate to the contents of the e-mail, Microsoft?

Went to see #Kraftwerk at the Royal Palace in Brussels yesterday. Second time seeing them live. Such a great experience; they sound incredible live. There was even a little tribute to Eddy Merckx during Tour de France étape 2.

Found a large lot of VTech V.Smile games at the flea market today. For some reason, it contained 15 (!) copies of Winnie the Pooh.

I honestly can't think of better value for money than my €5/year library membership. Gets me access to all physical materials, a large library of ebooks, and a vast archive of nearly all Belgian newspapers and major magazines dating back to the 90s. I know tax money funds most of it, but still...

Oh, the joys of working on early 2000s computers...

The CPU was already socketed, easy swap. Added small heatsinks to it and other hot-running chips. Replaced the BASIC ROM with an EPROM using a DIY adapter from PCBWAY. I had done the same for the KERNAL ROM. That was the first chip I replaced after reading many reports of it being a common failure.

Glorious sight seeing my Commodore VIC-20 boot for the first time after not working for 4 years. I did a repair attempt when I first got the computer, but gave up at the time.
It ended up having a dead 6502 CPU and a bad BASIC ROM.

It's not every day that a remake for one of my favourite games of all time gets released. I'm very excited to play it this evening.

This Pac-Land LCD game is a recent flea market find. Had to fix a corroded wire going to one of the battery terminals. That was all it took to get it working. It's not in the best condition, but a fun addition to the collection regardless.

I've seen at least 5 GameCubes now with badly leaking caps on the drive board. This does not get talked about enough. People need to start doing preventative maintenance on this. If your GC drive is unreliable, don't tweak the laser pot just yet, replace these caps first!

The Philips CD-i 740: arguably the most feature-rich and best looking consumer model ever, yet also one of the hardest to find. I recently acquired one and made a post featuring what I believe to be the first detailed photos of the internals to be posted online.

Here's an oddity that rarely gets talked about: Pokémon Project Studio. Despite being mere printer software, it's always bizarre to me to find a licensed Nintendo product for PC. Found the red version at a flea market today after owning blue for years.

This new Red Viper emulator for the 3DS is actual witchcraft. This will allow many more people to play the (IMO very underappreciated) Virtual Boy library with authentic 3D, without needing to buy an expensive VR headset or worry about the many issues with the original system.

It's been a while since I've been let down by a Nintendo remake. Full thoughts here: howlongtobeat.com/game/137869/...

The modest Switch line-up this year makes it clear to me the next console is close. I wish the constant contradicting 'rumours' could be silenced by an official reveal.
