You know, I've not done this yet.

Hello my name is Andi and I've managed to dine out on being part of a moderately popular videogame website/podcast/t shirt sales operation for the past 15 or so years and in that time have written at least SOMETHING for almost every videogame website I can think of

The amount of different videos I've seen of Stephen Hawking driving off the top of the Hell In A Cell in the past 48 hours is a sign that this AI thing is completely out of hand.

Rules. Game absolutely rules. Hugely underrated multiplayer mode too.

And a better example, when you can do the first person aiming in Twin Snakes and it completely removes the challenge of the original game because you can just ping guards with sleep darts from across rooms.

I find that the 'modern' camera bins off the need to use a lot of the devices like the motion sensor and that. It reminds me of playing Resi 1 Remake with the full analog controls and you can run circles around the enemies because the game isn't designed with that stuff in mind.

well if you get the best part of a decade out of it like I did, you'll be golden

Just blew up my nutribullet and had to make my protein shake with an immersion blender

I was stuck in that sand spiral for THREE DAYS.
andihamilton.com
Oh, and the slippery ramp at the end of the Manbreaker? Perhaps due to how long I spent lost in the sand place, I powered up it first time. Much to my relief!
andihamilton.com
The spiral up in the dark, sandy place immediately after the wish probably took me slightly longer than the Manbreaker, all being said.

On the credit sequence map bit I thought the red dots were going to burn through the map on that area.

I won't hold it against you.

I watched someone play a bunch of this last night and it is primo gear.
andihamilton.com
Look, I play a lot of fighting games and in order to get half decent at those you have to learn to enjoy the taste of all the shit you're going to be eating.
andihamilton.com
Yeah but you bloody well climbed the Manbreaker and no one can take that away from you.
andihamilton.com
See, right there is the difference - I never hit that wall. 15 attempts, 20 attempts, 30 attempts... whatever it takes. That's why I'm there. That's what gets me to the dance sometimes.
andihamilton.com
Yeah, that's the angle I was getting at.
andihamilton.com
Absolutely. Cool game. Is currently walking my GOTY list.

wasn't one million skeletons though was it
andihamilton.com
why has that changed?

I also think that Baby Steps is actually quite accessible and places dismissing it as 'rage bait' or something you should just watch streamers play are doing everyone a great disservice. It's a masterpiece and ties in a lot of my thoughts about challenge into some meaningful thematic stuff, too.
andihamilton.com
Yeah I don't disagree, what I'm saying is I saw a lot of chat which was framed around not understanding why people would actually enjoy a game that is being aggressively difficult. I loved those gotcha moments. I enjoy the struggle and Baby Steps played with that in a really compelling way.
andihamilton.com
Silksong is absolutely a baptism of fire but I saw discussions of its difficulty boiled down to masochism and that really isn't the case. I often see similar chat around stuff like learning a fighting game, or beating a boss in Sekiro, for instance.

Sometimes it's just nice to climb the Manbreaker.

The point I took from it is achievements, ultimately, are what we make of them. I received nothing but achieved something? Others might not think that but I connected some worth to it. Like the tower, earlier, with nowt at the top of it.

It's wonderful.
andihamilton.com
I've seen a lot of complaints (especially this year, around Silksong) that seem to fundamentally misunderstand why people play challenging games and honestly, Baby Steps couldn't have come at a better time to really drill down into that.
andihamilton.com
It is. I finished it (fully!) last night and beat the Manbreaker for the same reasons you just said. What I will add though is the achievement for taking the stairs is GENIUS, mind. It permanently marks the accounts of the people who bottled it and took the easy route.

I WILL NEVER GET THAT TROPHY.
