Ok this is sweet. researchers published a new generative model for upconverting a 2D image to a 3D representation. I took a random picture of a butterfly, used the model to make it 3D, converted it to STL, then printed it, and it worked...pretty well!

Hmmmmm....

Getting a 3D printer was probably the smartest thing I did all year. In addition to whatever I want to print, I got my kids Tinkercad accounts and now they make little gifts for each other and their friends 🥰. Strong recommend.
