My bronchitis face. There's nothing quite like waking up coughing blood, then spending hours sitting in waiting rooms for xrays and meds to remind you of how truly great our healthcare system is.

This is going straight into my lexicon. Someone in my Buy Nothing group made a post about how her son loves hedgehogs and calls them "chogs," which I now think of everytime hedghogs come to mind. Which is often.

Loaves!

I left the dough for this one in the refrigerator overnight after adding the yeast. The flavor and texture were good, but the rise was not good. But a new batch is started. I shall avenge thee!

the church pete hegseth is a part of, the CREC, is led by a lunatic who gives talks about "the lost value of sexism" and wants to drive women out of public life. this fully accords with hegseth's public comments. and he's been selected to run the largest corporation on earth

A lot of my hobbies and interests are a little fringey, so I'm used to interacting with weirdos. But dang, I did not anticipate the caliber of weirdos in the fresh milled flour community. Anyway, here's a pretty good loaf I baked.

The 1892 Columbian Exposition Commemorative Half Dollar. This was the first commerative coin minted in the U.S. and boy does it have a story to tell. I'm going to talk about this one for a while.

I never would have guessed that David Brooks would wind up being pretty much the only commentator I find worth reading anymore.

If you thought the former TV host would be asked important questions at the confirmation hearings this week, you must be living under the illusion that we live in a serious country.

This song just came up on my playlist, and it occurred to me that we're living in the Eidelweis scene right now.

Today is a 1963 Franklin half dollar, which is a bit of a misnomer as it was in fact modeled after former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura.

Today is a 1942 Walking Liberty half dollar. It's a bit smaller than a dollar coin, but at 90% silver, it still has some good heft. As someone who enjoys walking and raising my arm, the design resonates.

Today's carry is a 1974 Eisenhower dollar. While I do think Ike was a good president, he doesn't make for a very attractive bust. Also, this dollar isn't even silver, just boring copper and nickel. Plusses are that it has a nice heft and features Earth's bae, The Moon.

New year, new... thing. I've had a small coin collection since I was a kid. It's not really valuable and it spends most of its life in a box under my bed. So I'm going to start carrying one each day and use it as an excuse to talk about money, history, and whatever other random thoughts it inspires.
