This is part of the problem. Besides the keyboard warriors that dominate the discourse, no one has made their “entire personality” any one particular thing. But it’s super easy to reduce 70k students and 600 living alumni to a cartoon level of humanity.

Whichever team wins, the result will be met with excuses, whining, and complaints about the turf or the officiating, or the announcers. Neither side will be able to say “good game” or “we were outplayed” or whatever.

Hope my team wins, but I won’t be participating or watching.
