At only 6 years old, Tohmina showed signs of leprosy. Her father, not realising these were symptoms of the disease, tried many different medicines but nothing worked. Her eventual diagnosis affected the whole family and Tohmina was evicted from her family home.

Asir works as a shopkeeper but a recent ulcer, a complication of leprosy, has meant he is unable to do any physical activity. He lives with his wife, who is also affected - they are both cared for by their teenage son.
