The Kong team-up is PEAK cinema.

I love that they got four-time outstanding lead actor Emmy award winner Bryan Cranston to be screaming about Godzilla. They made that mf feel REAL.

I agree, but I ranked 2014 higher than GvK because it was the first Godzilla movie that really focused on the disaster he left using such a huge budget and great special effects. I love GvK, but it didn't feel as new or fresh as 2014 for me.

With this list, I tried to focus on what I enjoyed most while watching. I agree OG SHOULD definitely be #1 for how ahead of its time it was and what it set up, but I ranked these based on pure enjoyment.

I respect that list. Glad to see Biollante made the cut

I know of him, but never watched. Was he before or after Ultraman?

Love me some Mechagodzilla too

An argument can be made for all of them

I wouldn't mind that. It's the 75% unfunny slapstick comedy that I didn't expect. This season is the best, though.

No one talks about how bad the rest of this movie is.

It's one of my favorites of the Showa era, and it certainly has an awesome climax, but I just felt like there wasn't enough going on throughout to have it higher. But I love it for being Godzilla's face turn.

Where do you have it on your list?
December 1, 2025 at 1:11 PM
I agree with you completely. I was torn between whether to put this at one because of what it means, or what I actually enjoyed (at the time of ranking these). Godzilla was the first one I watched in January (not for the first time), and it sat at the top for about 8 months until I got to Shin.

The recent movies are really fun and vary in tone from super serious to "big monster punch other big monster." Do you have any favorites so far?

All Monsters Attack is the worst!

The top of the list was really tough. All 5 star movies, and the toughest decisions that I had to make. I could see them all swapping in the future

I'm not a big 98 fan, but two of the movies below are recaps, and I really don't like Son of Godzilla.

KotM is really good with some great battles. I could see that being a Monsterverse favorite. For me, I thought GvK started something fresh, but I might have been too harsh on KotM

We are certainly eating well.

I'm with you on the bureaucracy storyline in Shin. I feel like Godzilla works best when it's an analogy for humanity's failures, and their inability to deal with a disaster was so well done.

I agree. I think watching them in order made me gravitate to 2014 and Shin's more serious tone. The Monsterverse got much more light-hearted, but those definitely set the stage for the next decade.

I was surprised to have it so high, but loved the tone and how it was put together.

That was the toughest decision I had to make. I love everything about Shin, but the emotion behind Minus Zero won me over at the end.

If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life
November 30, 2025 at 10:02 PM
I think KotM could be a bit higher, but I couldn't get into Final Wars. I was surprised so many people love it.

I feel like some in the middle will shift, but I'm standing by the top and bottom
