“Julia”

Based on: Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

The book is Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. The cover shows a golden locket sinking beneath the surface of ever darkening water, with beams of light shining down from above. Meet Julia! Listen. I love to read, but I find I have less and less time to do so. Therefore, I am an audiobook fan. Audiobooks and crochet are two of my favorite things to do together. So when we decided to choose our 2024 favorite reads as our inspiration for this collection it was really hard to narrow it down. Firstly, because there were a lot of books, and secondly, because I sometimes have the memory of a gnat once I’ve moved on to my next great story. But I actually ended up listening to Pretty Girls twice this year, and I loved it both times! It’s a pretty brutal/graphic thriller, so please heed the trigger warnings. It’s about three sisters - one who disappeared when she was a teenager, and the other two who have been estranged ever since. I found the relationships and the character development to be very compelling, and if you’re in a mood for a book that says “f*** the patriarchy” then this could fit the bill. Julia is a midnight blue and spruce green blend, with very dark sections and softer sections fading in and out. The cover drew my eye right away - blue and green have always been my jam. I really wanted to recreate the fluid transition of color with some light spots shining through, and I feel like we captured it! I’m currently using Julia to make grandbaby number 7 a hat and it works up so beautifully (we will show it soon!). I hope you love this colorway just as much as I do!
