It’s great to be back in the darkroom, leading workshops at NCAD again this year. There’s something grounding about the smell of photographic paper and chemistry — a welcome change from everyday work.

I get it. And you are absolutely right

Thank you! I often go hiking in the Mourne Mountains when I need complete solitude. There are no trees there. Maybe only in the lower parts. On the other hand, I love forests, which are not very common here. It's hard to find something in between.

The Mourne Mountains. The magic of endless open space. Silence.

A portrait of my daughter from my September is the Cruellest Month series.
A black and white photograph of a girl standing on the beach and looking out to the sea. The girl is wearing a skirt and wellies and is clasping her hands together.

Taken on a 4x5 large format camera and using instant film.

Last Friday, after a long break, I returned to the forest to continue working on a project I started a year ago—'Before the Leaves Fall.' It's no secret that early autumn is the most beautiful time of the year.

Kilbarrack Cemetery with the ruins of a beautiful church, probably from the 13th century or perhaps even much older.

A scan viewed on a screen doesn't convey the richness and depth of a photograph. Seeing a print in person is a completely different experience. In this case, the size of the print truly makes all the difference.

I first photographed this church over seven years ago, and I still remember how much its form, character, and details struck me.
Here is the link to my old blog post with some photographs (on blogger which I don't use anymore): artursikora.blogspot.com/2018/02/sain...
