Much as back at the hostelry, Hancock found that the magician’s laughter was enchanting to him; both the sound of it, as well as how his face lit up. And as before the irritation chafing at the merchant found itself salved—not entirely, but just enough to make the whole affair more bearable. Enjoyable, even. Ifan’s laughter finally settled, and the magician wiped his eyes as he struggled to collect himself. “Clever,” he said, giving Hancock a wide grin. Then he paused as he noticed the expressions on his fellows’ faces. “...What? It was funny.”

I got to a point where it seemed like I’d sampled everything they had to offer, but it wasn’t enough to stop the old itch from rearing its head.” Alisaie’s left eyebrow rose at this. “Itch?” she asked. While he didn’t pause again, Ifan’s sketching slowed while he considered how best to elaborate. “The feeling I get whenever I can see something but not quite reach for it,” he said. His tone was casual, but there was an air of both impatience and nostalgia in it. “Like… a pot about to boil over on the stove, or a bowstring held taut for too long; just have to let it loose and run its course, and see where it takes me.”
