🌌 Radio signals from stars reveal magnetic storms & space weather on exoplanets! 🌠 These signals help us study solar bursts, auroras, and magnetic star-planet interactions.
@AstroJoeC is 1st author of this paper, explaining more about it.

It is Astrofest for @astronnl.bsky.social/JIVE today! We get together once-a-year and discuss about what motivates us (whether that is a particular science problem or their hobbies).

Even when our #LOFAR telescope is busy getting an upgrade, it is still reaching new milestones. According to the NASA/SAO Astrophysics Data System, the overview paper ‘LOFAR: The LOw-Frequency ARray’ has reached over 2,000 citations!

#WvdW24

Inviation for the lecture. At the top the title 'QAQS - Qua Art-Qua Science, followed by a despcription of the lecture subject and lecturer and the date and time and location of the lecture. The invitation is in Dutch. On the background you can see an image of the LOFAR superterp, the core of the LOFAR telescope, of which lecturer André Gunst is the system architect.

Director of @astronnl.bsky.social, Jessica Dempsey, asks:
💬 What makes our data so expensive?
💬 What are we paying for?

Turns out, whiskey can help us understand. 🥃 📊

Time (in barrels) + processing (distilling) = can our planet continue to afford this carbon footprint? #SPIEastro
A speaker wearing a blue shirt and orange pants is presenting on stage in an auditorium. The slide behind the speaker shows a photo of whiskey barrels with the text "What are we paying for, with a good whiskey?" and "Good distillation processing... and time."
