This is the personal account for my historical fiction and urban fantasy, my sports addictions, & opinions that would otherwise get me fired. www.WayneTurmel.com and my Amazon author page is https://www.amazon.com/stores/Wayne-Turmel/author/B00J5PGNWU
Obligatory unboxing photo but damned if The Deserter isn't my best historical fiction. Someone called it Beau Geste directed by Peckinpah and I'll take it

The Goodreads reviews for The Deserter are starting to come in for The Deserter. Author Jean M Roberts says:
"I would recommend this gritty book to lovers of military history, who fell in love with the French Foreign Legion and enjoy a superbly researched tale.

Rabid was fun. The follow-up, The Brood is my favorite Cronenburg though.
Time for a #MidnightMovie.
(Yeah, we do these early on Tuedays. I'm too employed for this.)

An early David Cronenberg film I want to share; Rabid (1977).

Anyone else know this one? Any other Cronenberg fans? Canuxploitation fans (can't believe thats a real word lol)?

If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....

Way to ruin the twist in my new book. Why do I bother 🙃
All great stories share one special ingredient. Epic Fantasy? Steamy Romance? Hard SciFi? Look carefully and you'll find it: someone getting hit with a briefcase full of bees.

30 years i have been watching the @laclippersofficial.bsky.social and they can still make me sad. Why do I do this to myself?

Here's one. Why someone hasn't made a movie about Florence Baker is dumbfounding the stolen woman

What John said....
I write the things I would want to read but I write for others; I can't write only for myself because I already know what I'm thinking and typing it out is just inefficient. Also I'm an ego monster and want an audience.
Been pondering the "write for yourself / no, write for an audience" convos I've seen going around. This obviously varies for everyone, but for me it's "write for myself, edit for an audience." I can't finish a project unless I retreat into a bubble and pretend nobody will ever read it--

I wrote The Deserter with Charlie Hunnam in mind, but alas he's too old. Jack Lowden or Jamie Doren would rock.

Watching M on TCM and is there a more gut wrenching confession scene? And the black and white is gorgeous. @moviessilently.bsky.social

Can someone explain to the old, cis-het white guy the love for Wicked? It was a clever, inventive book and a loud, entertaining stage play, but good lord. I saw people openly weeping in the theater and I honestly don't get it. Not hating, just curious what I'm missing.

Probably my favorite joke-for-joke Marx Brothers movie (not the best movie, just the wackiest). And my wife is wrong, Chico is funny
