Did you know that SNAP supports roughly 388,000 jobs across the food industry? Cuts to SNAP will impact grocers across the country, particularly in rural areas.

The Scott Administration just gave away private data of SNAP participants from the last 5 years - including mine! This includes name, date of birth, address, and social security number.

Disgusted doesn't even begin to cover it.
The Trump administration demanded SNAP recipients' personal data. Vermont has complied
As other states mount a legal challenge to the Trump administration's demand for residents' personal data, the Scott administration has voluntarily handed over the names, dates of birth, social securi...

Rural grocery stores may be forced to close if the #SNAP cuts in the 'Big Beautiful Bill' are passed. This would be devastating for rural communities across the country, who already face higher rates of hunger.
Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ food stamp cuts may kill rural grocery stores: ‘We already have hungry kids’
Together, the changes would remove more than 3 million Americans from SNAP.

What would you do if you lost healthcare coverage? What if your money for groceries was slashed? That’s the reality hundreds of thousands of Vermonters could face if the #Senate does not protect #Medicaid & #SNAP in their budget. This isn’t just a program. It’s people’s lives.

#SNAP feeds kids, but the "Big Beautiful Bill" abandons a 50-year promise that children in rural towns or urban centers won’t go hungry. And for the first time, it rips assistance from working parents just trying to put food on the table. Vermont kids will pay the price.

Thank you Congresswoman Balint (@balint.house.gov) for voting NO on billion $ budget cuts that take away the food assistance & healthcare that millions of Vermonters count on- all to pay for tax breaks for the ultra wealthy. We are grateful for leaders like you who put our health & wellbeing first.

🚨 This bill gets more egregious by the minute. Rules just dropped an amended “Big Beautiful Bill” that includes a provision to pressure health exchange plans to drop abortion services except in the case of rape or the life of the mother, even if federal funds are not used to cover the services.

So tens of millions of people are going to lose Medicaid and SNAP as part of this shady budget reconciliation process that continues to happen in the middle of the night when no one is awake to watch, and NO major news podcast had bothered to cover it?!

Alert 🚨
Have you seen my colleagues??
Republicans want to lower the age of a minor from 18 to 7, meaning once a child turns 7 their parents will be kicked off of SNAP if they don’t meet the work requirements.

Rs have left the room & refuse to defend this policy.

ALL THEIR SEATS ARE EMPTY!

The Republican-proposed SNAP cut would be the largest rollback of an anti-hunger program in our nation’s history. It will take food off the table for families and single moms, force rural grocery stores to close and make our farmers poorer.

It’s a hard no from me.

As Rep. Sorensen (IL-17) said in his opening remarks - "You want to increase work requirements [for SNAP recipients] but you can't even show up for work!"

Shameful to not even be present and accountable for the cruelty they are unleashing on people in their own districts, and all over the country.
Republicans can’t even defend their cruel & partisan cuts to SNAP. They’ve had nothing to say during the first 3 hrs of this markup. While pushing work requirements for vulnerable Americans- most R’s have left Cmte and gone to bed for the night while Dems are still here fighting to feed people.

Reminder that the House Ag Committee is meeting today to finalize their plan to cut SNAP by $290M (yes, they have increased the proposed cuts!) while increasing aid to commodity farmers who, by the way, don't grow crops that feed people!!

Tonight, the House Agriculture Committee will begin to markup the Republican reconciliation bill that proposes $313B in cuts to SNAP. We expect this to last well into the night, but I am prepared to advocate on behalf of every hungry child, family, and senior — for as long as it takes.

Turns out that providing meals at school with no cost increases participation!! [shock!]

Free meals decrease stigma, improve kids health, foster better learning environments, and help reach families who don't otherwise qualify for free meals but are struggling to meet their basic needs.

SNAP is more at risk than ever, and a policy that shifts costs to states could cut food assistance for nearly 43 million Americans. CAP's Kyle Ross explains:
Shifting SNAP Costs to States Would Make Future Recessions Worse
Ending the federal funding guarantee for food assistance would cut benefits and undermine the effectiveness of one of the strongest available tools to combat recessions.

Cuts to SNAP will force Americans into hunger while also taking a sledge hammer to small grocery stores that depend on the vast amount of federal dollars spent at their stores. This will be especially devastating for rural and low-income communities.

Passing a budget blueprint that lays out a path to push tens of millions of Americans into poverty at a time when hunger is on the rise is evil, cruel, disgusting, and unfortunately, not surprising.
