I personally like the Smith and Wesson Shield EZ. It shoots .380, and is designed to be easier to use.

However, I always recommend going to a range that does rentals, and trying a few different options, to figure out what works best :)

You sure that isn't the lead?

It's weaponized Autism in the most affectionate sense of the phrase.

Forgive me, but i have read 14 and 3399 about 4 times now line by line.

Is this a ban on public funds being used, or specific prohibition? I'm having trouble parsing it out.

Very good to know! Appreciated.

My only caveat to this, and again, I am not a lawyer, I'd much rather a fine, than no communication to emergency services in an emergency. But YMMV

Yes! I do mention the FRS frequencies in lower parts of the thread :)
January 17, 2025 at 1:29 PM
You can find them on Amazon actually! Roughly $30.

I wish the "thread" function worked better here 😭

Exactly!

My spouse got a deep cut on their hand, and due to the location, stitches weren't possible, but a bandage wouldn't be flexible enough.

Honey in the wound, Dressing, then gauze. Change twice daily.

It healed AMAZINGLY. Looks like a thin line now.

But yeah, kinda weird admittedly.

Listen. I haven't done this, but my equally unhinged home remedy?

Raw honey for wounds.

I'm not crazy, I swear

Hope you enjoyed this reading! If so, go follow me. I occasionally put out posts about emergency preparedness, and items you can pick up, without feeling like a crazy prepper type 🥰

Speaking of disaster! I also program mine with the National weather service and storm spotter frequencies. When the weather looks weird? I turn it on. Hearing storm spotters is much faster than listening to the radio, and honestly, I like watching the storm roll in.

I encourage you to pick one up. Pick up 2, or 3! Give them to your friends. Play with them. Find out the range in your area.

Build a network of people who can communicate in an emergency. So that when disaster strikes, you just have to turn it on.
January 16, 2025 at 4:07 AM
The best part?

Baofeng radios are stupid cheap. We're talking $30 on Amazon. You can spend more for better versions. But to just get in the game, you're not spending hundreds.

These are so cheap, that HAM radio guys view these as disposable.

In an emergency, if your city/town is not using encrypted radio frequencies, this could be your way to contact EMS*

Or it could be a way to communicate during a protest.

*I AM NOT A LAWYER, LOOK UP THE LAWS REGARDING TRANSMITTING ON EMS FREQUENCIES, EVEN IN AN EMERGENCY*
January 16, 2025 at 4:07 AM
There are many ways to utilize these! Road trip with 2 vehicles? Why interrupt GPS.

Hiking? You have an alternative to a SATphone, or your cell.

Blackout? You have a way to organize with your neighbors, friends, community members, etc.

In some places, they also can pick up local PD chatter.

The reason this is important!

If/when a disaster happens, cell towers may go down. Either due to power outages, physical damage, or sheer traffic (think trying to text someone right at midnight on new years)

Handheld radios are a great way to communicate, should things go "dark."

The next 4 years in the United States are going to be scary, huh?
