Sydney-based writer who is a pretentious dork (mostly about Dr Who). He/him
To be fair, I understand Vecna predates Stranger Things & is another example of the show borrowing names from D&D (because its nerdy MCs are D&D nerds, the bunch of nerds)

If the drum head is being warped to that extent by the kick pedal, surely "The Beatles" would also show signs of distortion (it doesn't) and other contemporary footage available online of Starr performing would show the wording on his drum similarly warping (it doesn't)

To be fair, if Ringo is playing a Ludwig drumset there it looks like the Ludwig logo has been really badly warped by *something* because that does not look like it says Ludwig. Whether overlooked in cleanup or their phone enhancing the image (poorly), that logo is unreadable

I'm sorry wot??

At least Halloween has more meaning than Buy More Of Our Stuff

For real tho - the first thirteen episodes of the show are incredibly invested in ideas of nuclear war, the atomic bomb & the power of the Sun (and how in a way? harnessing the atom is as close as we can get to harnessing the *power* of the sun & maybe that's horror)

this also looks like an ai-generated image of scooby doo but real

the whole Facts Don’t Care About Your Feelings movement basically

I recall when Billy Joel (who has basically just been touring/doing shows for the past 3 decades rather than putting out new albums) released his new song the other year he said artists only really put out a new *album* if they're like Taylor Swift level

I haven't seen it in years, but I feel like Quantum of Solace gets close to doing this. & Of course in Dr Who you shift the focus into the companion and Dr Who is held at more of a distance (which some writers have forgotten it seems)
November 11, 2025 at 1:32 PM
It really seems like they're intentionally overcomplicating things for themselves, as you said if they really do want to make a new one surely it's as simple as just rebooting it?
November 11, 2025 at 1:21 PM
Absolutely, Edge of Destruction is a bottle episode because it reuses a pre-existing set & features just the regulars, End of the World required hiring out a location, casting several guest actors & also lots of makeup/prosthetic work for just that one episode
November 7, 2025 at 12:52 AM
apparently bottle episode now just means an episode takes place (mostly) in just the one location/set rather than being the cheap one

(which reminds me, the whole adoption of Black Friday Sales in Australia really irks me! *that* feels far more like an Americanisation of Australia to me than Halloween growing in popularity)
October 31, 2025 at 12:39 AM
I think the thing with Halloween as well is that, even tho it's *very* popular in America and the American version of Halloween is very recognisable, it's not inherently an *American* thing? Like if we were celebrating Thanksgiving that would be far more blatant Americanisation y'know?

what is this neon genesis evangelion
October 24, 2025 at 12:50 AM
(also, lol, did they *ever* use retcon in Dr Who proper? so that would be grabbing an idea from a spin-off that aired about 6 years previously which would *still have to be explained* for the audience because this isn’t some common plot device Dr Who uses every other episode)
October 18, 2025 at 11:32 PM
Surely as well there’s an aesthetic choice being made here? Retcon is a drug, more modern more urban more cyberpunk in a way. A memory worm is more fantastical and Weird(tm), it’s suggestive of a slimy lil critter & of course there could be strange and unusual critters in steampunk London y’know?
