The cranberry council would rage

the Great Aisle 3 Wars would be upon us.

Someone should make a canned gelatinous raspberry sauce, is my summary finding.

I’m trying to imagine what this is and my brain keeps sliding back into “this is raspberry-flavored”

Ok wait now I got it.

Wisdom (discernment) aren’t rare or hard won.

They are ever-present capacities to those who are done fooling themselves.

🇺🇸 trifectas get shot at doing something

Obama chose policy (ACA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

Biden chose policy (ARP/IRA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

The platform must be institutional reform next time. Right from the start, as @dhnexon.bsky.social said
If we want to actually be a representative democracy, then the platform needs to be institutional reform. All the Popularism and all the policies follow from that, not the other way around.
- DC/PR/USVI statehood
- Enlarging the House
- MMDs
- New VRA
- Totally revamping SCOTUS: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
- Automatic universal voter registration
- Rewriting the "national emergency" laws: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
- Subordinating the Senate: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
Etc.

“This is not who I am, that wasn’t the real me” may work I guess (?) as an apology for an individual atoning for some past wrongs but it’s not a coherent way to think about a world historical national collectivity or ongoing way of life

Anyway, the falsifiability test for the “materialist” hypothesis would be socially-conservative, economically-socialist bloc achieving power.

& lol it’s never happened and never will.

& once capital has accepted the need to “hide the ball” of political power in ethnnochauvanist politics, then the internal factions of ethnochauvanist politics become important, just like capitalist power itself has always contained important factions.

Yes, tariffs and ICE and Capitol corruption move power from capitalists to politicians and the GOP.

But it’s tacitly understood & accepted that the GOP is protecting the investor class from the PMC.

The problem isn’t Senators etc…, it’s Stephanopolous, corporate news editors, and the political journalism industry.

[& reacting to it as if they could possibly do their jobs better —they ARE doing their jobs!— gives it power & them power.]

This is the main task of commercial national “journalism”: to construct a reality whereby the upper classes feel informed but not morally or ethically culpable for the society they construct.

Spectacle is the substrate for saavy, ironic detachment.
