I haven't kept up with all their games but ime arcsys has kept up their seemingly insane patches across all their games (the blazblues, xrd, strive, even +r). it might help, but it still exists within the larger fgc culture so idk if they (or anyone) can be properly insulated from this stuff

KI(2013) was doing all this stuff too, even had top players test stuff. players complained about how dogshit the game was all the way up until they announced there wouldnt be more patches and then suddenly those complaints all died.

tbh feels like this was mostly down to audiences not believing they could be heard whining on socials. but nowadays devs do social media, post vids abt balance updates, etc. socials is a meta battlefield now.

flippant bigotry, asking ppl to contribute to closed source project for free (with vague claims of maybe being paid at some point in the future), $5 patreon to access builds, video mock-up presented as if its an actual build... hard to imagine this has any hope of being completed let alone good

also, given how character power scales in these games, you might start out playing twelve but by the end you're a zabel player and you didn't notice the change??

funny that OP accepts 'yank' as a replacement, which much more so has a history of being used with some level of animosity. maybe there's a whiff of woke about 'USian' (implying there are other parts to 'america') which is more upsetting... 🕵️

he got paid to write a book about how to write, and the excerpts I've seen were written exactly like that tweet

comparatively there are more fg than rts/afps, but there is a similar problem of the old established big names sucking up so much of the air in the room. on the bright side, the core appeal of fg is unlikely to be replaced by other types of games in their genre space the way rts/afps ended up

arena fps and RTS games both suffer from having been peak multiplayer in the 90s and falling off since. any attempt at making indie stuff now is compared to the few old behemoths who have managed to survive until today. extremely difficult to get ppl to invest effort into anything new.
