"It was all in le head" fucking sucks because you waste the reader/player's time, and when the time wasted can be in the triple or quadruple digits, you should expect people to hate your guts for retconning it.

I'm mad that people don't get that saying "All of the shit you've spent years putting time and emotion into theorizing about and sharing with others is now essentially irrelevant because it was actually a fiction inside of a fiction" is a genuinely awful way to close off a narrative arc.
