It's actually kinda perfect. Meaning "Bear Guardian", Arcturus is a star that's sometimes thought to "herd" Ursa Major, the Great Bear constellation. Given Meli's affinity for bees and honey, a bear herder would be pretty useful.

There are lots of cool names from astronomy or mythology that fit the dog perfectly but don't quite fit Meli. Like they sound too fancy for her to pick herself.
Orrr... maybe she adopted him as Arcturus and since nicknamed him something simpler like Archie? Hmmm...🤔
