I got to vent my opinion in DutchNews on the caretaker Dutch cabinet’s nationality law proposal. I could have devoted just as many words to the appalling lack of quality English-language news coverage of Dutch politics and of Dutch-language news coverage of proposals affecting ordinary migrants.
"Dutch nationality plan is a desperate act of political bravado" - DutchNews.nl
In any democratic society, immigration law is an outlier. Normally, the people directly affected by laws should have a say in how they are made. But immigration and naturalisation laws are different, ...

Long before Spotify featured songs literally generated by AI, its algorithm produced Ed Sheeran and other pop music meant to sound as much as possible like insipid advertising jingles
The goal of Spotify’s algorithm isn’t to help you discover new music, its goal is simply to keep you listening for as long as possible. It serves up the safest songs possible to keep you from pressing stop.

Seeing this on TV at the age of 14 remains the most inspiring historical event of my lifetime: it was one of those things that supposedly was never going to happen. And I loved getting to participate in a performance art project to mark the 20th anniversary, a big “FU” to walls everywhere

The CJEU will soon be ruling on whether this Danish housing policy is directly racially discriminatory (the Advocate-General's opinion says it is: curia.europa.eu/juris/docume...).

The UK's Home Secretary wishes to base family reunion for refugees on such a policy.

Goh: ben inmiddels ruim 20 jaar Nederlander.

I see some quibbling about if sandwich guy is really "jury nullification" (we know he's factually guilty and acquit anyway) or actually just a normal acquittal because the government didn't prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Fun thing about jury nullification is that's entirely unknowable.

New: The FBI is quietly urging ICE agents to properly ID themselves in the field.

In a bulletin to law enforcement last month, it warned of criminals posing as ICE to rob, rape, kidnap—a problem it says now demands national coordination to confront.

In a bulletin to law enforcement agencies, the FBI said criminal impersonators are exploiting ICE’s image and urged nationwide coordination to distinguish real operations from fakes.

Lots of new behind-the-scenes reporting in this piece:
News on Trump boat bombings --> Rep Adam Smith, top Dem on Armed Services, tells me GOPers are failing to press for testimony from the top Pentagon official who recently resigned, potentially over the strikes.

Appallingly, we may never hear from him.
