in vegas you need to apply the audio effect to your audio track of your choice (the voice over track for example) and all you need to set really is threshold and ratio. ratio sets HOW much the audio level is affected. i can help you with settings if you want

so audio compression is a very useful tool in any form of audio production. it reduces the volume of sound when it exceeds a set threshold, making loud parts quieter. As a result, the overall volume of the sound is balanced. here's a good pic that i found that explains it

excited for a new vid! but im always wondering why aren't you using built in compressors in vegas when it comes to dealing with volume fluctuation? "efx compressor" is very decent. i imagine the manual envelope editing might be daunting
