So this is fun - I’ve given an objective accounting of something that happens, quite a bit.
Weirdly I hear it in personal conversations with lots of people but few people are saying out loud that they think Trump’s trade policy is directionally correct, if poorly and boorishly executed.

Everyone I know that makes something in a critical industry. Also most people I know that work on economic security issues. Argue against the implementation, the power grab by the executive, the active and apparently intentional harm to alliances, sure.
kind of curious as to which angle? tackling re-industrialism or current account deficits?

We’re talking a lot about Korean and Japanese shipbuilding, which are excellent but I am still not clear how much capacity they have. Why isn’t shipbuilding coming up more in the public discourse around the India trade talks?

You could call it a violation of humanitarian law or any one of several other things. But this is not an armed conflict, unless internal legal justification is using that as an excuse (we don’t know, which is also wrong.). War crimes have a definition and words mean things.
Is this post arguing that the killers and victims were not of different nations?
Or that the US military are actually just civilians?
Or that the mission of the US military is to randomly murder the unarmed civilians of other countries in international waters?
Would this be a peace crime?

I genuinely don’t get how you can conclude that by definition a military force shooting unarmed civilians in international waters is not a war crime tbh? Especially since we know some naval officers are concerned it is!
As an anonymous person online do you know what constitutes a war crime? It's not that. You could ask if I think they're right or wrong, but by definition they're not war crimes. Glad I could clear that up for you, since you are clearly very invested.

People have yelled at me for reasons I can't entirely fathom when I've pointed this out before, but both Canada (North Warning System) and Denmark (SSPARS) have incredible leverage; cutting off the feeds from either system would be a six alarm fire in Omaha, Colorado Springs, and elsewhere

My offhand math is doing an across the board fire close to all the probie new hires just in the GS/equivalent systems would net probably at least 50K people, maybe closer to 75K, but expand that to the WGs and it's like 150K+
