Just a tiny bit downriver (and visible from Harper's Ferry) is the second water gap at Weverton Cliffs. Easier to climb than the Maryland Heights and part of the Appalachian Trail.

The "graffiti" on the cliffs is pretty hardcore ... some is over a century old and is chiseled into the stones.

Light snow at 8 AM sticking to elevated surfaces, grass, and stationary rodents. Frederick, MD, 415' elevation.

With a small amount of work (mostly planned already) the 30-minute high-quality bikeshed of this spot will be amazing. Sligo Creek, Long Branch, Takoma Park, Fort Totten, Brookland, Cleveland Park, the C&O Canal, North Bethesda, Kensington, as well as the much closer Silver Spring and Bethesda.

Might be worth a dive down into how the assumptions in these reports panned out:

www.energy.gov/sites/defaul...

I wonder how well understood in 2014 it would be that natural gas prices would be setting market prices (an obviously the invasion of Ukraine has upset a *lot* of other assumptions).

I feel this. I look in horror at how the heaviest rain and winds and now likely in the bauxite mining and aluminum smelting regions and the mine tailing ponds.

We've worked ourselves back to Shimmer, haven't we?

Back to the water ... upstream of the small dam of this tiny stream is a substantial swampy area with tiny fish, turtles, dragonflies, and reeds. Tiny rodent engineering is doing wonders. (5/5)

In the middle of the small wooded area ... dozens of small stumps with telltale "pencil" shapes making it clear that they were chewed down. Notably, the edges of the woods are not being harvested ... using the cover to collect from the interior. (4/5)

The path comes from this cluster a small trees planted relatively recently as part of a reforestation effort along a new recreational path. (3/5)

A disconnected path that just leads to the water? All the grass is beaten down in one direction. (2/5)

This seems like a rather uniform collection of sticks in the water (1/5)

Given how policy is made currently -- what is on the TV in the last 15 seconds, then maybe someone made a good decision for this to not be available right now?

Don't be the inspiration you really don't wont to see in the world.

I've seen Neo Art Deco, but Retro Deco is clearly a better term.

Lee Plaza (1985), amidst 1930's era actual art deco buildings:

Amusingly, Lee Plaza is just about the midpoint between now and actual Art Deco.

There are some parks (usually not on the paved trails) where you can tell people have been planting/assisting them. Photo was a couple weeks ago, and as an extra plus, the zebra swallowtail caterpillars rely on Paw Paw trees.

On the plus side, we typically need fewer lava diversion dikes around our party pools?

This is the clear solution then:

Yes, is there a chance of missing some storm that briefly touched cat 5 for a small period? Sure. But don't underestimate the amount of ship data from the 1920's-1950's. The Great Atlantic Hurricane (1944) was sampled by plane from Puerto Rico, obs from shipping, and sank multiple navy vessels.

Yes, some Cat 5's have occurred outside of the main Carribbean/Gulf of Mexico basin, but they are (even now) still an outlier. Is it possible that some have been missed, but I think for these larger features (not like tornadoes!) shipping and barometers are still useful tools for trends.

It doesn't even need a crazy map.

davesredistricting.org/join/796df54...

This one preserves 2 AA majority districts, has one more at 40%, and 8 safe seats total. Anyone complaining that the 5th district crosses the lower Bay ignores this is how the 1st District was from 1972-1990.

That's not universal, which means it should be even easier to change. I wonder if it is also a reflection of the era parks were built? City park vs. post-war suburbia park?

This park has a built in food service pavilion that events at the park opens up for food/drink sales. Food trucks usually too.
