Senator Kelly is correct.

Plus a Public Service Announcement:

KEY section of Department of Defense's Law of War Manual is 18.3.2.1.

The VERY rule on the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders gives as its paradigmatic example of what is "clearly illegal:
"orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

Stoppard's stage directions for the desk clutter in Arcadia lives rent free in my head. A playwright and director who truly understood all parts of a theatre production working together to make magic. Rest in peace.
A story Stoppard told several times, in several places:

9000 words down, somewhere around 30,000 words to go.

This weekend I will be locking myself away to work on Chapter 1, which will be a highlight reel of animals commonly found in north American cities.
Big news: I’m writing a book!!

I’ll be writing & illustrating a beginner’s guide to appreciating wildlife in cities/suburbs, & how all of us can make our neighborhoods better for those animals.

Thank you to my book agent @ericsmithrocks.bsky.social & the folks at Storey for believing in this book!

A crayfish in Michigan so big I never figured out for sure what kind it was. Some sort of field/stream aberration of its kind.

A reminder for those who are not aware: "remigration" is the process of deporting all non-white people from a country. It includes citizens and is, by definition, ethnic cleansing.

And to be clear: this is not fake. I just screenshot it myself.

The sun just came out for the first time in 3 days so that's nice. Takes a little bit of the sting out of the 22 degree real feel.

A light snow is falling. The past two days of heavy windgusts have blown nearly all the leaves off the trees while blowing Lake Erie toward Buffalo.

Cooking the turkey from nearly frozen b/c I did it last year & it was the easiest and best turkey I ever made. Probably in top 3 I've ever tasted.

For the record, it's estimated that the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in 25-35 foot waves... and these figures below are for "significant wave height", or the mean height of the highest third of the waves. That translates to a good 15% of those whitecaps EXCEEDING those heights. 🌊

Hell with it, I'm just going to post the whole thing here via screencap and alt text. It's Kaleb Horton, man, his writing always deserves the second read, especially since it could have just easily been lost forever like so much else. Read it, share it.

How is it not 11pm already?

It's been dark for hours. It never even got what you could call "light" today.

In addition, those 45-50 mph SW gusts will whip up waves around 10' by the Lake Erie Islands, and close to double that height the farther NE you sail (or would on a nice day... 0/10, do not recommend).

REMINDER: Not that there will be many boaters out there tomorrow, but by Wednesday evening, western Lake Erie could see lake levels drop 5-6 feet from their current (Tues eve) mark! That "seiche" will also make for a 10-12 ft difference between Toledo and Buffalo.
