Right, a new episode is now live: we discuss this week's announcement of the Beatles biopics cast.

🍏OK OK, so they don't look like them. But they're all excellent actors. We look at their previous performances for clues to what they'll bring to it.
🍏Four films in a month: mad in a good way?

Now live, our episode on Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

🍏What does the scene in which Dewey meets the Beatles in Rishikesh tell us about popular views of their personalities?
🍏Is it a laugh?
🍏What are the common hack tropes of the music biopic and has Sam Mendes seen this film? We hope so.

Monday! We'll be talking Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and THAT Rishikesh scene. It's a surprisingly long episode considering the Beatles are in the film for about three minutes. But plenty of things to discuss about music biopics and their common tropes.

You can watch the scene here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g_x... Presumably Dickinson, Mescal, Quinn and Keoghan have been studying it intently.

Harris Dickinson on BBC Front Row with @samiraahmeduk.bsky.social: they're still rehearsing, they start shooting in November, and yes he's finalised John's accent and no you can't hear it. I remain hugely reassured by the track record and approach of all four actors.

Season 7 is officially GO.

First things first: George Harrison and John Lennon went on David Frost's show in 1967 to talk about their newfound practice of transcendental meditation, then came back next week and debated it with academics.

RIGHT THEN. Season 7 starting next week, new episodes every Monday.

Up first: we're discussing George Harrison and John Lennon's two appearances on The Frost Programme in 1967 debating transcendental meditation.

It is quite remarkable: first that two pop stars were given this platform and taken seriously, not laughed at. And second that there used to be TV debates where people were given the time to make their points, and didn't just shout at each other for social media clips. It's almost unrecognisable.

Then they were invited back on 4 October (note the date in this video title is mislabelled) to debate meditation with an audience of prominent thinkers. youtu.be/hUGkbNu06-k?...
