I have many thoughts about this, one is I can't help but think this is all just shining a light on how games are still being held to wildly different standards than other media like film. I've played very few games like HORSES but watched so many films like it (as a connoisseur of arthouse horror).

Game developers were here first. Not executives.

Game developers make games. Not executives.

Game developers have skills & knowledge important to the business. Not executives.

Game developers deserve to keep their jobs. Not executives.

Executives are replaceable. Not game developers.

Yesterday, the Epic Games Store decided at the last minute not to distribute the game, after having previously approved a release build. HORSES is otherwise now available on GOG, Itch, and Humble for $4.99. www.horses.wtf

Hahaha, right?! Or what about mandatory disclosures for the discrepancy between the salaries of the CEO and their lowest paid worker? That would be so funny, right?! Let’s do it as a funny joke!!!

"Why stop at AI use? We could have mandatory disclosures for what shampoo brand the developer uses" — Epic boss Tim Sweeney says Steam should ditch its AI generated content disclosure. https://bit.ly/4a193vt

If I was dead set that all games should and inevitably will include a specific production feature I would absolutely want a label so I could point to how successful those games are.

Sween obviously wants to be able to claim that all games are now made with genAI without you being able to check.

I think Demonschool is a good video game but I think Brandon’s approach to how staff worked together and were credited REALLY deserves a lot of attention. Video game crediting is a stupid black box and transparency will help average people understand these roles.
demonschool credits all 145 people who touched the game over the course of its multi-year dev cycle AND explains what exactly they contributed. the rest of the games industry, which commonly omits people from credits entirely, should be taking notes

Just to be 100% clear: do not *trust* your employers - that's super silly. The relationship is economical, not based in loyalty, trust, or kindness. There's no judgement in forming a union, just understanding that capitalism requires a risk of financial loss to get companies to do the right thing.
"Unionisation efforts just signal to employers you don’t trust them"
"Just profit share"
Have you been in the industry these past three years? Some ppl just wanna marry the boot

Good advice in thread for all protests.
Tl;dr:
Don’t register for a protest.
Cover identifiable features (hair, face, tattoos, piercings)
Leave your phone at home (get a burner)
You don't know anyone there!
No SM posts!
Look up a lawyer beforehand and write down their number in sharpie on your arm
WAIT

PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS REGARDING NO KINGS PROTESTS RIGHT NOW

For real, this is not a joke

In keeping with my earlier post, IT IS NOT A COINCIDENCE that immediately after the government makes a bunch of official bsky accounts we suddenly have a huge influx of new --

If you show up with a friend who you know

YOU DO NOT KNOW THEM AND THEY DO NOT KNOW YOU

Cover your tattoos, remove your piercings, show as little skin as possible

you are just a medical mask, sunglasses, hoodie, hat, and jeans

you have no name, you have no affiliation other than "fuck monarchs"

You do not register for a protest!

You show up unannounced, unidentified, and physically put your body into the midst of the protest as one impossible to track and impossible to surveil (via human eye OR AI-assisted camera) cell in the greater organism that is a mass protest.

This is "debanking", and its a problem that has plagued sex workers for decades. It isnt right when its targetting sex workers and its not right when its targetting game devs and creators either.

Give paypros and your givt reps your grievances and demand that debanking of adult content stop
Per Reddit: Steam adult developer in the UK is sitting on a USD equivalent of six figures, can’t find a bank to take his money because the developer creates adult games

Procgen AI peddlers and NFT peddlers are the exact same planet-destroying, capitalist, amoral grifters. We can't keep saying we didn't know. "You're standing in the way of progress", "you're against small artists making a bag", all the same unserious arguments.
This tweet aged gracefully. In 2021 I was asked to do NFTs. 4 weeks of work for $1 million. I got harassed for months by cryptobros for saying no. The project went ahead without me and the offer was legit.

NFTs were and are a grift, peddled by the same techbros as AI

please don't trust a computer with a contract. imagine what the worst thing related to that contract could be, then ask if you want to spend less on a lawyer to avoid it.

Das eigentlich Nötige, u.a. Ermunterung zum Perspektivwechsel, Betrachten eigener blinder Flecken etc., passiert nicht.
