Teton Park Road closes in winter from Taggart Lake Trailhead to Signal Mountain. It is groomed for skiing and snowshoeing starting soon in mid-December--an easy, flat scenic winter route!

It's all size perspective. Look closely for skiers beginning to cross Jenny Lake below the Tetons.

Some snowcoaches go to Norris Geyser Basin for a romp around Porcelain Basin. It's an ice and steam wonderland in winter.

Winter in the Upper Geyser Basin isn't all snow. Water from hot pools keeps the snow at bay and thermophiles still thrive with colors.

A4 I'd prefer to go for natural fireworks, so dark clear skies are necessary! #parkchat

What's different about seeing bison in winter? They can be frost-covered, for sure. But they also walk single file in deep snow with the first one breaking trail so the followers get to save energy.

Mid-December is the annual opening for hopping a snowcoach into Old Faithful for a couple days of skiing or snowshoeing in the Upper Geyser Basin. So wild with copious steam spewing from every pore in the landscape.

Celebrating the giant redwood trees! Tour through Grove of the Titans on a raised metal walkway designed to protect the base of these huge ancient redwoods. Be prepared to look up!

It's #NationalHikingDay! Today I'm celebrating all trail crew workers who maintain paths in the #nationalparks, #forests, #canyons, #deserts, and #islands.

I'm also celebrating #trees this week...and here's larch in the fall on a trail. Love when their needles turn gold.

It's a good week to celebrate trees! Along the boardwalk, large bald cypress trees produce bizarre vertical growths from their roots perhaps for aeration or anchoring.

Please share trees to celebrate!

In tribute to our waning larch season in western Montana, this pic shows how their needles turn gold in fall which almost makes them look lit from within. The needles will all drop in the next several weeks, leaving them looking like skeletons until spring.

Best place to grab the sunset on an evening with some clouds is Pay-hay-okee Overlook. You can also nab views of the River of Grass, too, in the opposite direction.

Maybe we should all take life lessons from manatees who sleep floating about half of the day. Hmmmmmm!

A4 I'll just say up front: I'm totally biased here because it's where I've worked and lived. But Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier gets my top vote. #parkchat

Fascinating to watch anhingas drying themselves in the sun. Look for them around water where they dive, swim underwater, and spear fish to eat with their beaks.

The short Anhinga Trail is one trail to hike several times at different times of the day in winter. So much going on with birds, alligators, and changing light.

One of the best parks for winter has beaches galore, turquoise water, and underwater trails for snorkeling. And evenings often light up with sunset colors.

The Chimney Rock Loop offers views of the spire from all angles, including peering down on it from above. One of the best short loop trails with such a variety of sandstone color.

A7 Hiking in Chiricahua was amazing...so few people in February last winter when we were there. We strung together a bunch of little trails into one long loop. Sorry, can't remember the trail names right now. #parkchat

A2 Isle Royale. It blew me away with amazing trails, sunsets, fog, camping, and water. As a mountain girl, I expected flat and just forest...but oh, it was wonderful!!!! #parkchat
