I think a ton of the guilt people feel about our living spaces being untidy is because Hollywood only ever shows cluttered or messy domestic spaces as a cue to convey something bad, usually that a character is insane, maniacal, degenerating, an addict, or the room has been violated/ransacked/unsafe.

THE CLAIM: Donald Trump referred to his political opponents as "vermin" who are "poisoning the blood of the country."

FACTCHECK: Trump did make these statements using these exact words, but it being true is potentially very damaging politically to Donald Trump.

OUR RATING: Mostly false

The Pass It On campaign is the work of Philip Anschutz, the right-wing billionaire known for exemplifying civility in his newspaper The Washington Examiner where one of his idiot supplicants called Kamala Harris “a puppet of the abortion industry” like two days ago
Hey, thanks, airport. I guess I was unaware that Lincoln preserved the union and ended slavery through the cunning use of [checks notes] “civility.”

Since I'm thinking a lot about gender and masculinity lately (and I swear I need to just fire up the laptop and log into DreamWidth and write an essay): there is - correctly - widespread understanding that toxic masculinity is bad, and a pretty solid understanding of what that is. HOWEVER. 1/?

Im the 80s, the magic word was "communist" in Korea and "satanic" in America. This latest batch of banners tried "woke" but it wasn't scary enough, so they switched to "porn." In every case, the word means "books with depictions of the types of people we don't want in society."

"City of Last Chances" by Adrian Tchaikovsky - a hugely fun "Industrial Revolution fantasy" set in a city under occupation. Does a great job of threading the story through different factions' POV, keeping each one sympathetic even though they're often at odds. Next in the series arrives Mar '25. 💙📚

love that we've ceded control of our primary voice networks because we're too corrupt to pass and enforce rules that don't upset telemarketers and debt collectors
The first rule of avoiding scam calls is to never answer unknown numbers, and even some known ones.

Curious? Bored? Worried it’s an emergency? Wait the extra minute it takes for the call to go to voice mail, then decide if it’s legitimate.
Sick of scams? Stop answering your phone.
Phone scams are still hugely popular — and they depend entirely on people curious enough to answer.

💙📚 Just re-read "Shantaram" by Gregory David Roberts. It is 100% "Eat, Pray, Love" for dudes; nevertheless it has a special place in my heart. Apparently they made a show on AppleTV?
