Heartfelt sympathies this morning for all the talented people who have struggled for years to have their long-held dream movie project made by the brutal Hollywood system, only to learn that Trump has snapped his fingers on a whim and wished Rush Hour 4 into existence.

Surely a painful read for anyone from Aotearoa.

The $44 pie at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, reviewed
It costs a lot of money to attend the Las Vegas Grand Prix. It costs even more to eat a basic pie there.

1) Have taken a day to process this shame and am now prepared to tell the following mortifying story.

Got on the bus yesterday to go pick up a few things. Went and sat up the back, as is my wont. With me on the bus was one other passenger. Started reading stuff on this very app on my phone.

Surely no sports team is more susceptible to a truly devastating psychological blow than any given England cricket team in the first match of any given Ashes series.

One thing I guess AI is doing is revealing what turns out to be the vast number of people who just don't actually look at things, going through life in front of what I can only assume is one vast grainy background blur.
This mural has gone up in Kingston, ostensibly for Christmas but AI has ensured it's actually to celebrate the return of our dark lord Cthulhu

"Events will be listed no more than a month in advance" is the editorial policy of our free events guides, which I am thinking about for no reason in the available mental space not taken up by Boney M's "Mary's Boy Child", which is running on a loop in there since my lunchtime supermarket visit.

Jumped on RNZ to see how the All Blacks got on and this is on the home page BUT, as long as I don't proceed, I keep the possibility alive that this article says "sure they won by 30 points, but they missed two conversions".

Went to Predator: Badlands last night and it was lots of fun, but also wondering how many different planets Aotearoa has played now. We must be the hottest place in the world for the somewhat immersion-destroying experience of "Oh hey that's just here, but you stuck a couple of CGI peaks on it".

Not a lot of people know that Health Star ratings are cumulative. Like a can of Coke is 0.5 stars out of 5, so if you drink 10 cans per day, that's maximum health.

"I Think You Should Leave" has been very hit and miss for me (although the hits HIT), but maaaaan, the latest episode of "The Chair Company" was one of the funniest things I have watched in ages.

New Zealand's population growth is low, as we can sense from this Stuff illustrative shot of a distinctively Kiwi crowd taken by Anton Kraev of Arkhangelsk, Russia.

Catching up with Nosferatu (2024) and trying to think if pop culture offers another example of "we have classic story A that we keep remaking and also we have classic story B that we keep remaking that is just classic story A with the serial numbers not even half-arsedly filed off".

Facebook now seems to be hitting me with new notifications that go "hey, remember this comment from your friend in the middle of a big fun discussion you had here years ago?", which really only serve to remind one how very terrible it has become since the days you actually *saw* your friends on it.

Feels like a lot of people are gearing up to waste a whooooole lot of money in the understanding gap between "It is amazing AI can produce video this approximate to the real thing" (it probably is!) and "The achievable level of approximation is still utterly functionally useless as entertainment".
