How you arrange your Choral Count matters - look how the patterns can shift when you change the orientation or number in a row/column.

I love the routine Same and Different because we can ask kids to make sense of new models (without forcing them to use them).

Slow Reveal is not just for graphs… have you tried it for test prep yet? Here’s any example.

Notice and Wonder is not “less mathy” than other routines. Here’s an idea to make it more focused.

Which One Is Unique (aka Which One Doesn’t Belong) is a powerful discussion starter… if your prompt is well constructed. Here’s an example.

How much?

And follow-up questions, like:
- what equations could match?
- how could (10 x 3 x 6) + (4 x 3) show up?
- what would we have to change to make it (10 x 6 x 3) + 12 ?

If tasks are open enough, kids will engage in different grade level standards.

In 1st today, two students were productively arguing whether 3x10 or 10x3 was a better match for our count (we started with “how many?” and moved to “which number sentences could match?”).

For example... I believe this algorithm would be obvious to kids who had plenty of experience choosing how to count/group many sets of real objects and were engaged in questions like "How much"? that could be connected to 144x4+3 and 579/4
