it’s been three and a half years since I left, but I honestly still miss living in Gyeongju so much that even just looking at a map of the city makes my heart ache 🥲

I am now on a self-imposed book-buying ban but here is a selection of recent purchases ✨📚💙

we spent a long weekend in Amsterdam 🇳🇱 I went on so many family holidays to the Netherlands as a kid (my mum grew up there) and it has always felt like a second home - currently trying to work out how we might go about moving there 🚲

recent book purchases 📚 have also been dipping a toe into annotation - mostly particularly striking passages or quotes ✨

turned 30 a couple of weeks ago and got some waterstones vouchers from friends who know me well - spent some of them in the paperback sale online and they arrived today 💙📚

the introduction of the @penguinbooksuk.bsky.social Archive series is both the best and worst thing to happen to my bank account - feels like when I was growing up and I could get a book for £5 or £6 📚
also picked up a copy of The Moustache - been meaning to read it for a while!

living in the middle of the city is terrible/great because it’s all too easy to pop out for new books whenever the urge takes hold of either one of us (in my defence only one of these is mine) 💙📚

decided to gather up all my books I’ve yet to read in one place and a book trolley was the perfect solution 📚 tsundoku ✨

went to Waterstones so my boyfriend could get a new book and couldn’t resist picking out one for myself too - I’m on annual leave this week so I plan to do a lot of reading 📖

today’s book delivery ✨ many many thanks to @honfordstar.bsky.social for the arc of Red Sword - very excited to read it! also picked up Esc&Ctrl in the @influxpress.bsky.social sale as though I don’t already have enough on my tbr

Today’s wfh set up because it’s near impossible to get up the hill to work at the moment, trying not to get too distracted staring out the window

2024 reading wrap-up from the storygraph - didn’t read as much as I would have liked because of various life things going on, but I much prefer setting a pages goal to a books goal 📚

I kept a journal religiously between the ages of 14 and 24 and I’ve just found them all again - very weird realisation that I saw an Oscar-nominated composer perform in 2016

a cosy and surprisingly thought-provoking read - and now I want to open up my own little bookshop! the translation felt a little clumsy in places, but that’s forgivable as it’s hard to translate perfectly from Korean to English because of the differences in phrasing/language

I finally got around to reading Bunny, a solid year or two after everyone else… and it was a little underwhelming 😬 Astral Season, Beastly Season is an odd little book - I wish it had kept the tone of the first half all the way through!

Whenever I visited Seoul I had to go to Starfield Library (별마당도서관) - a library in the middle of a busy shopping centre! Spot the convenience store hidden among the shelves 📚

also got both my Eliza Clark books signed by the author at said event - she admired my personalised 'ex libris' book stamp while my boyfriend, who teases me mercilessly about that stamp, stood by sheepishly

#recentlyread back in May I went to an Eliza Clark author event and she read an excerpt from this collection - a long wait to read but it lived up to my expectations! I Have Some Questions for You was great except for the last 10% which was a bit of a let-down 🙃 #booksky📚💙 #bookreviews

I’m reading this book at the moment - I’m a big horror film fan so this is right up my street ✨ bought from Juno Books in Sheffield! They even ordered it in for me as they had sold the copy they had in stock - support your local independent bookshop 📚 #booksky💙📚 #itcamefromthecloset #junobooks
