To me a more complete phrase is “adversity is the cost of progress.” I say this because you have to challenge a norm in order to change it. This can be applied to societal norms, personal fitness, personal development, professional development and so on

How I find them is by listening to their comments about people that look objectively good (based on societal norms). They say things like, “as much as I can't stand that she killed her kids, she is still so hot to me.” #observation

So comments like because “you're black you're more violent” are inherently racist. Versus, “white people do abc because of white privilege/supremacy ideology” -history and current events support this comment. The comment is not based on any assumed aptitude of white people.

Some people argue that due to the prevalence of mass shootings, we need to improve gun control. Not saying take guns away, because it's so ubiquitous within the country. However, common sense and research-based gun control should be implemented.
