(3/4) Longboat competed for Canada at the 1908 Olympic Games, and was later inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. Today, his legacy lives on throughout the greater Toronto area -- and through his great-great-grandson, himself an impressive marathoner.

(2/4) But I'm reminded of a story I reported earlier this year about one of the Mohawk Institute's survivors. His name was Tom Longboat and he was forced to attend the school at age 12. He ended up running away. Years later, he became the first Indigenous person to win the Boston Marathon.
