Okay, I know the answer to this question. If I have a heart attack, I can't leave a situation where one of my family members needs to become an e-mail server expert just to keep their e-mail running.

I'll find a commercial e-mail provider.

I did install postfix on a VPS, long ago, but only for outgoing e-mails. I understand that it's a much bigger challenge to run a real, bidirectional mail server.

I probably won't do it. Just considering several options for e-mail.

Do I want to run my own e-mail server for my family, on a VPS? Or would I be walking into a nightmare?

A stubborn Portulaca seed escaped from our flowerpot, and is attempting civic beautification at the end of our driveway.

A struggling little plant with red stems, growing in a crack between concrete and asphalt, bears a single yellow flower.

I like durian, but my wife apparently developed an allergy around the 4th time we ate it. 😿

Greetings, Bluesky folks! Welcome to Mastodon! Here are some tips to help you get started:

1. This is the Fediverse, and you don't have to use Mastodon. Try Hubzilla instead. Or GoToSocial. Or Akkoma, Smithereen, Friendica, or Sharkey. Or pretty much anything other than Mastodon. You will […]

So Portland has reached the "Let them eat doughnuts" stage of societal collapse.

So what I'm hearing about Bluesky's moderation policies in the past few weeks is:

* Tolerate intolerant people who are right-wing.
* Moderate intolerant people who are left-wing.

But do your own research, because maybe it's just a few hotheads angry about waffles.

Hey, YOU are the one who posted about "the _shit_ that gets us excited".
billstatler.forum.statler.ws.ap.brid.gy
My wife and I use Linux for almost everything, but there's still an old desktop PC with Windows 10 (which in my opinion was a downgrade from Windows 7). We only use it for some financial software, an old flatbed scanner that isn't supported under Linux, and Excel 2013 (because LibreOffice Calc […]

I remember the good old days when we were excited about a new kitchen sink.

Nowadays we're excited if we successfully digested yesterday's dinner.

A few days ago, Nepal banned 26 social networks, allegedly for failing to follow legal requirements. This triggered a lot of bad things.

Mastodon was one of the banned services. What I haven't heard yet is: _What exactly did they ban, to ban Mastodon?_

This is obviously relevant to potential […]
