What takes it beyond "weird" to "fucked" is that our government is so incompetent and/or malicious that all the proposals to regulate it slide into "punish queer kids" or "you need a driver's license to read Wikipedia" territory.

Half the states in the country are going after social media companies with bills and/or lawsuits calling them "addictive" for bullshit reasons (e.g., that showing the number of likes on a post is addictive), but God forbid we lose the AI race to China.
