I have two things.

1) An interest in tech, AI, coding (with kids), politics, world affairs, Minecraft (coding with kids), child behaviour management, indie brewers, music and Saints FC.

2) Long COVID.

What's going on here?

Either Claude Sonnet 3.5 has become sentient and has killed off its younger brother Sonnet 4.5

OR Sonic 4.5 has a personality disorder

OR there's something amiss with your Github Copilot implementation for Claude/Github's Sonnet 4.5.

🤔

Great work, BTW!

So AI needs a coffee break too?

I remember him well, Statto.

Short legs, freakishly long arms with deformed hands, IIRC.

Bet he could've shown Delap how to take a throw-in.

Come on Roy £380 billion per WEEK every WEEK amounts to a total spend of £239.4 billion for the YEAR 2023

Fact!

I know that on the surface that looks impossible - after all 52 lots of £380b amounts to ~£19.8T

Fact?

But this is post-2016, post-truth economics where up is down and black is white

Well, Sofascore shows us lining up with a back 4

It's either that or the madness of Manning as left CB.

If it is a back four and that midfield lines up like that, and the ref isn't a twat, we get the wind at our back and get the rub of the green, I reckon we could keep this down to 6-0.

Now we're being trolled by Italy.

Since Ivan left Roma, Ranieri has improved things dramatically.

The BBC website describes Steve Bannon's Nazi salute at the CPAC as:

Steve Bannon makes one-armed gesture on CPAC stage.

One-armed gesture?

Yeah, and Senator Agsby suffers from Prestodidwick's Congina.

The cross is on the way and we've lost track of a player that has stayed almost static for the last 26 seconds.

It was a stunning cross.

I have a horrible feeling that this chaos is actually what Ivan wants - players to be aware of gaps left so they can go fill them.

We're not that good.

Bree still man-marking

Smallbone doesn't close down Christie.

Fernades picking up Bree / KWP's role.

In ~26 seconds, Ouatarra (goal scorer) has been passed on to 4 different defenders without any need to make any lateral movement and finds space between the centre and left centrebacks.
February 16, 2025 at 6:54 PM
KWP clears the ball and we get a better shape.

Ouatarra (goal scorer) now being marked by Bednarek / Wood.

Bree still man-marking with Fernandes now covering his position / KWP's position.

Smallbone running towards the player with the ball when he should probably have closed down Christie.
February 16, 2025 at 6:54 PM
Bree still man-marking.

Bednarek has been dragged right.

KWP has moved towards the centre.

Welington and Wood now marking Ouatarra - the goal scorer.

9 (nearly 10) Saints players in our own box against 6.

Fernandes not close enough to stop the lob into the box.
February 16, 2025 at 6:54 PM
Clip 2

Bree, per instructions sticks to Tavernier like glue. I conclude he's doing what he's told?

Bednarek is also trying to man-mark Semenyo (I think) but is overloaded (the team has been pulled out of position) so he has to make a (good) choice to challenge the cross

Tall Paul at "right back".
February 16, 2025 at 6:54 PM
Clip 1.

Over 26 seconds their goal scorer moves no more than 2 yards (across the pitch L->R) from the penalty spot - just moving up and down the pitch with the flow.

In contrast, in that time he is marked by KWP, Wood, Welington, Bednarek and ultimately nobody.

26 seconds & he hardly moved

It can't come soon enough for @lewisgoodall.com.

I'll look out for it.

I'm not an expert but there looks to be a bit of a continuity error in that still.

Mind you, Joe Wright has form - from the article.

Well, I've never tried it and I don't know how you define "session" but I'd bet the Beak's Hum would give it a run for its money.

Or, if we're going for a longer session then People Money Space Time by @verdantbrew.bsky.social is excellent.

I will add BSB to my "todo list". 👍

Finally (I promise) this is where Delap played a lovely ball between the retreating Bree and Ugochukwu.

Great defending by Big Les to push their man wide but again THB (6) and KWP (not in shot) were out of position.

You could argue the system works because Big Les WAS THERE but it's risky.

THEEND
February 2, 2025 at 1:32 PM
...and the aftermath.

The ball is in the back of the net and the two wide centrebacks are not in the shot.
February 2, 2025 at 1:32 PM
...this then left Bednarek one-on-one with Delap. One on two if you count the 9.
February 2, 2025 at 1:32 PM
...and this is what it meant when we were caught out and lost possession in a dangerous area.
February 2, 2025 at 1:32 PM
Great win yesterday but I went to bed being quite concerned by the chaos of #SaintsFC 's performance.

Sorry for the stuck record but Ivan's plan for the CBs to press and man-mark makes me wince.

Here are the pitch heat-maps for the 3 CBs - orange area = ~ defensive touches in their half
February 2, 2025 at 1:32 PM
In fact, they were all committed. Really impressive effort.

Cons.

Two centrebacks injured.

Chaotic game with no control

Effort and energy won't always overcome that level of chaos

But when they do you get something like this...
