Ok yeah that'll do it.

Woah woah woah, let's not put those things on the same tier of red flag as unironically enjoying Fred Durst's creative output just yet.

It's extremely suspicious that he's 31 and (apparently?) aLimp Bizkit fan. That band peaked when I was in high school and that is FAR from recent history.

You know how I KNOW I have ADHD? I left the house planning to go to IKEA and didn't remember that fact until I got home from

Dining out solo actually rules.

I lean taco, but personally went with fancy burger and a beer tonight

The White House Antifa Roundtable is one of the best displays I’ve seen of this-is-how-bad-it’s-gotten — just a sewer of open fascism, dementia, morons and freaks, and incoherent rage.

"Wow, lots of these candidates are actually kind of close to my age."

At first, this was a positive reflection about an upcoming municipal election.

Actually it might need to be better than a 10 minute mile, since we're talking about reintroducing a habit that will over a long enough time frame be all but guaranteed to kill me dead.

This is a weird train of thought to hop on, but it's left the station now.
blitzcrg.bsky.social
Maybe I should make a deal with myself that I'm allowed to pick it back up again as soon as I can run a comfortable 10 minute mile.

Fuck a marathon, I'm training for Benson & Hedges King Size.

Still waiting for this analysis, by the way.

I keep dreaming of cigarettes, and pine for the ritualistic "sit outside quietly for 5 minutes" of the smoke break.
blitzcrg.bsky.social
Someone do the math for me: I smoked for 15 years, quit for 11. I'm 41. How many years do I have to wait to start smoking again before my risk of death from lung cancer is about equal to my risk of death in a car crash?

I struggle with this personally all the time. Being a cyber- anything is presented often as doing a lot more than seems reasonable (speak, write papers, mentor, volunteer...).

Another piece of advice I'd give is that it's ok to just do your damn job (once you've got one).
blitzcrg.bsky.social
I'm 10 years into the "has security in my title" stage of my career and my only advice ever has been "It helps to be extremely lucky, and also to recognize when that's happening and act on it".
blitzcrg.bsky.social
Even some of the advice in the linked thread is bonkers. "CEH is trash, OSCP is the way to go."

FOR A SOC ANALYST NEITHER IS RELEVANT WHAT
blitzcrg.bsky.social
And before I hit "post": it absolutely IS worse. Conditions have changed in a way that makes the problem (poorly defined requirements for technical roles, hiring teams that don't know security, rent seeking certification bodies...) much more serious where before it was merely annoying.
blitzcrg.bsky.social
CEH as a prerequisite for an L2 SOC role? That makes *no* fucking sense in any job market.

That said this phenomenon may be getting worse but it's not new. Who has two thumbs and had to become a CISSP to justify his first promotion?

(Not just) This Guy!

Predates what we consider social media but a local punk scene message board I joined when I was 19 years old directly led to every important thing I've done since. Meeting the people that used it showed me I could make music. Meeting the people who ran it showed me I could have a career in tech.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?
blitzcrg.bsky.social
Streaming is not profitable until you're pretty close to universally recognized, or you're at least a household name within your genre. Up to that point, you're definitely making physical albums, packing a digital download code in there, and selling them at a merch table at all your gigs.

I have to add a small coda here: it's "over" as the center of the larger recording industry yes, but very much still critical for indie artists with smaller followings who tour a lot to have even a ghost of a scintilla of a chance at making a living with their music.

VALIDATE MY CHOICES GODDAMMIT

Aw c'mon, man. It actually just works! No snaps-by-default! Multi monitor support on an nvidia card is actually functional! TELL ME WHY IT ISN'T COOL!
blitzcrg.bsky.social
Bruh I just switched to Fedora, and I like it. Why isn't it cool?

I think we can retire the "year of the Linux desktop" jokes, I don't see anyone topping this ever.

(they don't bother to learn this lesson because they're mostly psychotic, but everyone else that works in these organizations may not be and can/should do better)
blitzcrg.bsky.social
This is NOT something I knew when I started, either. Took some good mentors to get me to see the problem with that attitude. It's a real shame that the goofballs that make themselves the faces of the technology sector have never bothered to learn this lesson.
